Auto Trans 6th gear issues

So I had a cam installed and a stall converter about a month ago now. I recently threw a CEL when I went from reverse to M. Before I could check the code it cleared its self. Now when I am in 6th gear the car will
Not accelerate at all And it shakes the car. Every other gear is good . Any idea to what the problem could be?

RPM too low for cam. Dont go into sixth gear until a higher mph.

I'm shifting into 6th gear at around 70. But yeah the RPM issue makes sense.

could you explain why it would only be sixth gear. I can go to low Rpms in 4th and 5th gear i realize 6th is a taller gear.

When you say it will not accelerate at all, are you saying your giving throttle and the engine is revving faster and faster yet the trans is not communicating this increased engine speed to the drive shaft? Or, are you saying that your increasing throttle and for some reason the engine remains at a constant speed?

It could be that the stutters in the car are the lock up convertor clutch. You could have low line pressure at low rpm, your in the highest and most resisting gear, and your engine is in a fat torque band that might be pushing through the line pressures ability to hold the convertor clutch in lock.

Like for instance I'll be in 5th doing 75 which is around 3500 RPM I'll shift into 6TH it'll drop down to around 2000RPM , and then itll roll fine as soon as I try to accelerate it starts to jerk the car, and will not really accelerate.

During this jerking, are the RPM's remaining steady, or is the tach bouncing as if the engine's load is being released and then captured again in fast succession?

I'm asking because there are two avenues to consider. One being that the trans is releasing and catching, allowing the engine to bounce up and down in revs. The other is the engine sees a constant load, and something in the trans is getting crossed up. I'm not a trans guru by any means, and I'm not playing one here... But I've built a few of my own transmissions and run into some problems that forced me to learn more than I ever wished to know about the electronic and hydraulic programming. It's painful to diagnose some of these problems.

You need to get onto a Snap-On scanner or on a dealership scanner to live monitor this thing. If your description is being understood by me, I'm betting that you have two clutches engaged at the same time causing a bind like effect.

You can't really diagnose it accurately without watching each solenoid fire and release. You'll also see converter lock and verify it's holding steady voltage. Get to a dealer or trans shop before you do damage.

Took it to my tuner , we drove it. He plugged his laptop to the car and he figured out it was a misfire. A falty spark plug caused it all.

Wow! A misfire caused that much of a feeling? Radical! Be happy that it's something simple, that is likely the best case scenario you could have found. Im glad it all worked out in your favor.

I had a similar issue on a LS1 f-body a few years ago... it too was a misfire... I would have been the guy to come here saying "check your plugs" ONLY because i've been there before, lol... but at least you found the problem quickly, I was scared to drive my car for a month(we only had 4 gears, lol)... my dad ended up being the one who found the issue
