OK --- you gotta have some faith here peeps!

I've said it until I'm blue in the face (oh -- wait -- it was the headlights that make me indigo......) -- anyway - I digress --

We intend to be the best out there.

Period.

(and pay no attention when people start spouting off 'liters' -- )

Some of us are used to saying "327" and "350" and "427" and "396" - and when you ask us liters -- we tend to mix 'em up. (me included, of course....)
Our FBODFATHER HAS SPOKEN.....LETs move on!!!!!....PLEASE

you know what 400 hp isnt that much power actually. this is the power at the crank. the power at the wheels is much less. well be lucky to get 375. granted its a step up from the 2002 camaro with 330hp, but 400 hp really isnt that much. there are 4 cylinder turbo charged cars putting out close to 400hp, STOCK. i know not everyone wants alot of power but there are people who want more than 400hp especially since it gets less at the rear wheels. im happy with the ls motor, dont get me wrong, i was just expecting more.

Here's my take:

First, I just want to request the guys deciding the engine to put anything BUT a 6.2 in it, but make it better than the LS3, just so we can see 2010's head explode.

Secondly, I think this entire name thing needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

The DI 3.6 gets 304 hp in the Caddy, 283 in the Chevy Traverse. An even 300 in the Camaro? That makes perfect sense. The tunes are all different, but essentially the same engine. Based on the spy pics showing a V6 with the Caddy DI specific engine cover, plus Ed's comments here, I am 99.999999999% positive we'll see a DI V6 model making somewhere in the near neighborhood of 300 hp. Enough to tackle the 350Z (though short of the upcoming 370Z) Hyundai Genesis, and current Mustang GT (though again, upgraded soon). So really, the V6 is going to be a legit performance car, not just a style-mobile. Sweet.

The LS3 makes 430 hp in the Vette, 402 hp (expected) in the G8 GXP. Perhaps, as Scott suggested, Ed misspoke and meant 6.2, meaning possibly a detuned LS3.

OR...

The L76 in the Pontiac G8 application makes 360 hp, but it has been said that with just premium gas and a tune, we're looking at 400 hp. So I don't think a 400 hp L76 variant is out of the question.

Or it could be another Gen IV combination, which, despite sharing common names, all of these engine variants are just Gen IV combos. A lot of parts can be shared and swapped.

OR...

Maybe they can get a Gen V out that quickly. And then we just forget, as usual, everything we think we know.

Still...in the end...400 hp, with fuel saving technology? That's a good thing. And though 2010 will disagree with me, it doesn't make much difference whether that's done with 6.0 or 6.2 liters.

im not going to disagree with you but there are guys out there(like me) who arent buying this car for "gas savings". im buyingthis car because i want a bad ass muscle car. i dont care about gas prices , thats why im buying the v8. if i really cared i would buy a v6.

one thing you all need to remember is this

Horsepower sells cars
TORQUE wins races.

it doesnt matter how much horsepower you have, if you cant put it to the ground.

or in other words.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall
Torque is how far you take the wall with you.

More or less...It's just silly to get all worked up over 6.0L or 6.2L.

I’m just as excited as the next guy, but were still 6 or more months away from and concrete info.

Plus we've been told several times from those in the know...FBODFATHER

"To forget everything we know about power trains"

If you take the time (and I’m sure you have) to read thru all the threads (ignoring the hear-say) Its obvious to me that this Camaro will knock our socks off...

Go back and ready the thread on PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP and read FBODFATHERS post.

We need to read in between the lines.

I’m VERY confident this Camaro will be WORLD CLASS / BEST IN CLASS.

Yeah, I know what you mean...... Remember that Edison guy? That whole light bulb thing was a complete disaster. Should have just stuck with the good old reliable oil lamps.

I know what you are getting at, but it's the inevitable process of human evolution. Would you rather your brand spankin new 2010 Camaro Z28 that was pretty much designed on a computer have a 4 bbl carburated 396 with iron block and heads or a modern, all aluminum LS3? Can't beat old fashioned hydraulic lifters. And that distributor ignition is sooo much better than computer controlled coil packs. NEVER have to change those. I mean, you could get a good 15-18 MPG out of that engine with the aerodynamics of the 2010 Camaro! With hardly any emissions (when it's not running). The extra weight of all that solid iron helps keep the car on the ground so you don't get airborn when you hit the gas.

Edit: Sorry Scott, there I go mixing cubic inches with engine codes........ wait a minute.......

That's GM'S fault - raising all us kids up on denoting your engines first by cubic inches, then 20 years later you denote them by liters, and now there's some letters thrown into the soup. All for the same displacement. No wonder my generation is so confused.

Hm Well If it's a 6.0 or a 6.2 liter, it's not that much of a difference. The Way I'm looking at the situation of upgrades. Which engine is more accessible to what, and what engine shop is more confident in doing such things that i would want to do to the engine. 2 Liters isn't much at all

Many of the parts are interchangeable. They are all Gen IV V8s.
