Hello everybody,
I’m a Camaro fan from Turkey. I had to admit that I had no intention of having a camaro, but after I read your posts in this forum for like a month, oh god! I was planning to buy a Mustang but hell now, camaro is the exact thing what I’ve been looking for. Well, right now, I’m at the stage of buying one, but I have some problems because of the taxes in my country. Firstly, let me tell you that, in Turkey, we pay %130 tax for car over 2000cc engine. I know this is mad, but it is the truth. So, 2LT is around 110 k $ and 2SS is around 150k $ in here. So, it is not easy for one to choose directly the V8. Also, fuel prices are quite high in Turkey. It is around 2.5-3$ per liter. So, in Turkey, if you’re not extremely rich, fuel consumption is quite an important thing no matter your car is. Well, I have this huge confusion about the MPG and LITER rates of 2SS. In the USA website of Chevrolet, it says 2SS has 16 and 24 mpg, which is 17lt and 11lt. However, in the Canadian website of the Chevrolet, it says the 2SS has 13.4 lt and 8.4lt. According to the Imperial mpg, 24mpg means 11.7 and 16mpg means 17.6lt. According to the US mpg, 24 mpg is 9.8lt and 16 mpg is 14lt. So, where did chevrolet.ca come up with the figures of 13 and 8 lt? Also, in the chevrolet.ca, it says the 2LT version has the figures of 11.8 and 7.9lt. So, the difference is only 1-2 liter, which is OK for me to choose 2SS. This will really effect my decision between 2LT and 2SS. I really want to have a V8 but I’m quite sure that I cannot afford 18Lt (let’s say it 20lt). Also, let alone the Usa and Canada, in European versions of Chevrolet’s website, it says 2SS has 10lt on highway and 20lt in city. God, I’m going to be mad! If 2SS is really have 8.4lt on the highway, I’m planning to buy a used 2010/11 2SS which is around 90k $. If it really does have higher consumptions, I’ll go with a new 2012 2LT. Note: (I have just noticed that in camaro5’s wiki page, it says SS engine has: Fuel Economy: 16 city/25 highway (13.2 city/7.9 highway L/100km) In which measurement system, 25mpg is equals to 7.9lt? I must have been missing something) I do not use my car in city conditions to much. Maybe 6-7 km for daily use, but I will be using it for long distances (high way) like 600-700km once in a month. So, the fuel consumption on high way is crucial to me. I know that most of you do not appreciate AFM system but it will come quite handy to me a lot than yours since on the highway, I will not be looking for high powers (I’ll mostly make 130km/h speed). So, could you please help me to figure out the exact fuel figures? |

Hi Vermilion master, I'm in New Zealand, did you remember the Camaro figures are in US gallons. One US gallon is 3.78 liters. One imperial gallon is 4.54 liters. That should explain the difference. Hope this helps, I had trouble working it out too.

I average 19 miles per US gallon. I do about 75% of my driving on the highway (70 to 80 miles per hour). I would propaply get a little better economy, but it's hard to resist playing with the throttle in to SS.
What I'm trying to say there is that you won't actually get what they estimate the economy to be. So if what they predict the economy at is close to what you think you can afford, then you probably should avoid it and go for the more economical car. Or do what I do. I got tired of buying so much gas and got a cheap motorcycle. I use the motorcycle for my daily driver and use the Camaro much less now. |

I average about 17 liters per 100 km in my 2SS. The sticker ratings are not realistic in my opinion. Mind you I'm a little heavy footed....

The hwy mpg that is alway quoted by a company is based on the car being driven about (i think ) 50 mph steady to get its average, which no one drives like. Think of it this way though if it did not burn so much gas it proberly would not be so much fun to drive and it would be called a Prius.

Thank you very much for your responses..
EMB135Driver: It is per Kilometer. habunow1: I know you are right but in most of the cars that I had or drove, I even get the figures below the estimated ones. I remember having 4.5-5 lt/km continuously for like 1 hour with a 290hp car. However, I always achieved this with Cruise Control. Is there such equipment in Camaro? born-to-fish-: Actually I have the ability to control my self even if I'm in a speed car So, when I'm on the highway, I'm quite light footed. So, it is really important for me to learn if it is possible to have 7-8 liter on the highway. If I can only achive this with 2LT, I'll go with the V6 and try to make myself to belive that the sound of V6 is as good as V8. And after I while, I will make myself to believe that V6 is actually better than V8 hehee

Thank you very much for all your replies. So, I suppose if the best figure we can get on V6 is minimum 9lt/100km, it is impossible to have 11lt on SS.
Well, I think I'm gone have go with 2LT. Bythe way guys, 2012 2LT camaro is around 100k $, 2011 with 5-10k miles is 85$, and 2010 is 74k $ with 10-15k miles on it. Which one do you think should I choose? If I go with a 2010, I'm planning to apply a Alpine xtc-cmo dash kit along with a back camera. And probably a Hurstle Paddle shifter. Also, I have heard that they say something about the passenger seat has a problem in 2010 models. Is that correct? |

Only issue wit the passenger seat that I know of is that you can't adjust the height, up and down. The seat is very low in the car. Passengers shorter then 150cm will have difficulty seeing out the windows.
On another note, I just finished a 310 mile drive from San Diego, CA to Las Vegas, NV. It was all highway and I averaged 70 miles per hour. My average MPG was 22.4 (USA) |
