Trans and Rear Diff
Anyone here changed thier A6 Auto fluid and filter and done the rear Diff fluid themselves?
I was checking the fluid part of forum and lots of people say the fluid is real bad. I figured this fluid would be good for a while. Now I'm thinking of running out and get the stuff and do it way before recomended. One post I read about a guy backing out of his driveway, said it sounds like his tires are rubbing, respond poster said it's prob his rear end fluid causing sound. guess I'll be putting her up on my lift and do a complete fluid change and trans filter. and my eyes are spinning from all the different oils mensioned, brands you should use, rear end additives to use, or don't need additives.. i'm thinking of using Mobil products. I've never used royal purple except when i used to work at airports. so if any of you local gear heads can let me know what your using for fluids, additives or not... etc... thanks

Yea Phil I think a bunch of us have changed the oil way before the factory says so. I put full syn in every thing. The reared greas come in one bottle with the friction additive in it. Do it

Double check on that. NOT ALL rear end fluid as the friction additive in it. You do need it so make sure the one you get does have it.

At what point are people changing it? I was looking for it in the manual, and I even thought I read somewhere that it needed to be changed early, but I can't find that (or maybe it was for cars that race?) I'm nearing 20,000...should I be thinking about changing it? I guess I can read the other thread too...what's the link Phil?

I changed my rear diff fluid and put in Royal Purle LS75-90W at 1500 miles.
Figured it was a good time to get the synthetics in after breakin. |

I never said all rear axle lube had friction in it. Just that you can get it all in one bottle now.

From the Manual (page 10-7)
Rear diff: Rear Differential Fluid 75W-90 Limited Slip to GM Specification 9986226. GM Part No. U.S. 89021677 and Friction Modifier 1052358, in Canada 89021678 and Friction Modifier 992694 I believe you need 2 of the friction modifier bottles to add. They are small. Auto Trans: DEXRON®-VI Automatic Transmission Fluid. Page 9-30 has the location of fill and drain plugs. |

Picked up the mobil 75-90 LS.
Asked pepboys for trans filter and mobil dex vi. they don't carry around here. Too new, my car is. autozone same... but they can order it. Anyways. The thing i noticed on the thread i posted, nobody changing their filter and gasket on trans. Just dump and refill. I can't imagine not replacing the filter. every automatic I've done since i was 16 . Oh well. Anyone spot any mobil dextron vi around let me know. I guess it probably could use almost any dex6. But this is my baby ...LoL
