Does the Tonneau Cover reduce rub marks?

Sorry if the idea has been floated here before. Just wondering if using/not using the cover increases or decreases the likelihood of rub marks (assuming the TSR has been done)
it would seem that the top would experience a lot more moving around without the use of the Tonneau Cover, hence the rub marks?

Just a thought

The cover itself rubs on the middle of top when in use. Many of us place a black towel or black fleece material between the top and the cover. I bought a black bath towel from Wal-mart and then cut it in half. Gave the other half to another H-town Camaro Club convertible owner. Others have gone to Hobby Lobby and bought black fleece.

SORRY.... Just trying to understand, do You attach the black cloth to the underside of the cover (i.e. glue) or do You lay it between the two sides while "dropping the top"??

Thanx in advance,
E

I use the tonneau just as it is. I really haven't noticed anything unusual when I take it off. Anytime I am going to do top down driving for an extended time or at interstate speeds I use it. I am afraid the excessive flapping without it is more detrimental than using it.

Just lay the towel or fleece over the top prior to putting on the tonneau cover. Adds 15 seconds to the process.

Either way had no effect on the rub marks that end up with holes. I tend to put the cover on more than leaving it off.

Highest Speed with Toneau on?

I have never even taken my toneau cover out of its bag due to the many reviews I have seen that discuss how much of a PITA it is to install, and posts from other C5 members about their's flying off. I regularly drive my car at 70 to 80 MPH on the Houston freeways with top down, and take it to as high as 140 occasionally just to put a little excitement in my wife's day.

So what is the fastest you guys have gone with your cover on and no issues? Thanks!

Hmm only about 78mph. It really isn't that hard to install once you have done it a couple times, 2 minutes at the max to install by myself And with my wife's help, 4 minutes....just kidding with my wife it takes less than a minute. I really think it adds to the look of the car also. Have I said lately that I REALLY love this car!

Thanks man. 78 is a good benchmark. Yes, I do agree that it gives a much cleaner look. It likely also significantly cuts down on the turbulance going on back there. I have just been concerned that one day I will stop for gas or something and find that I no longer have a toneau....

That's only if you live in Philadelphia.
