That is completely normal. As long as the rockers cant physically rotate you're fine. The free floating on the bearing is what makes them better then stock (and no needles, ofc). With the lifter pumped up with oil, its virtually impossible to move a rocker by hand in that fashion, since there is significant spring tension on it. On a cold engine it isnt too hard though.

Get out a TQ wrench and a 6MM hex and put 18 ft/lbs on all the studs, sometimes one can be slightly loose. Its also possible you have a lifter on its way out, which will make some extra noise.

I checked torque to make sure and they were all tight. What I dont understand is the passenger side has the same upgrade but is dead quiet. I dont think I have 8 bad lifters on the drivers side only lol.

Did you take the passenger side valve cover off and check them too?

I didn't, the passenger side is a pain in the ass because the heater hoses with the e-force kit run along that side and they are a molded metal line so you need to remove them to work on that side. But from listening to it the passenger side is dead quiet and the drivers side is noisy like in the videos.

I did use a stethoscope to listen to the passenger side valve cover and driver side valve cover and there was a very noticeable difference between the two sides.

I was just wondering if the same lateral movement was there but no noise.

4 words..... Heater Hose Relo Kit.

Lol it basically is a heater hose relocation but they run pretty close to the valve cover on that side. It came with the E-force supercharger so who knows.

My friend has an E-force and aside from the fuel line having to be disconnected the passenger side valve cover is fairly easy to get to. It might provide some peace of mind to pull it and check it out just to be sure. You must have got your E-force rebuilt I see? Awesome!

im pretty sure thats normal if u look at the passanger side it would do the same, when the oil pressure is up with car running this will go away , its the up and down u need to worry about. but i have not worked on a ls3 just old 327 350 and such, but same thing.

These Heavy duty valvetrains are noisy, we are working with High lift cams and heavy valve springs.

The side to side clearence is normal (engine Off) but does not move when the engine is running.

Most valvetrain noise can be attributed to too much oil in the crankcase, there have been many discussions about it.

Everyone is so anal about filling the oil to the tippy top line on the stick.

Personally I like them on or just above the lower line on the stick.

7 Quarts with Filter on an oil change.

Ted.

Thanks Ted. I didn't really see anything wrong so I suspected it was normal. Ill drain a quart out tonight and see if that helps any also.

Update! I had to do some running around tonight and when I got home I put the car up in the air and drained a quart out like ted said. It was sitting directly on the low level line and I took it out for a test drive. I'm pretty amazed at the difference! It quieted down probably 90% you can still hear a slight ticking when your next to a curb but crusing the sound is completely gone.

I stepped on it a few times and it seems like climbs through the rpm range a little quicker? Maybe its just in my head but it could have something to do with less oil windage freeing up a little bit of HP? Who knows?

22 lb-ft on the rocker bolts would be a better number...just sayin

Does anyone have an explanation for the "oil fill level" affecting the noise? Seems it would be unrelated but I am interested

They were 22ft/lbs that's GM's spec too.

From what I understand when the oil is full to the top the bottom of the crank hits the oil and causes airation (sp?) in the oil and that is supposed to contribute to the noise. I'm not 100% sure how it does but in my case yesterday after draining a quart the noise was 90% less no joke.
