Unlike your picture in post #6, mine routes through the green box in your picture so I'm assuming your tech re-routed yours before taking the picture. I can see the bracket he may be referring to but at least on my car it doesn't look like it's at risk of cutting. I like the stock routing.

I hope you get the oil issue worked out. Seems like a bad warranty issue thats requiring some disassembly to get resolved. Sucks dude!
That routing looks to be better but still could use some added protective sleeve where it goes past that trans bracket IMO otherwise chafing could still occur....easier to take preventative measures now than to have to replace a wiring harness later.

I ordered my 2012 ZL1 in mid-February at a local but small scale Chevrolet dealership with the hopes that they would come through with an allocation. Several months later and by chance they did receive an allocation and my ZL1 was produced. My ZL1 is number 1526 AGM Manual, and I took delivery of it June 23rd.

I followed the break in instructions to the letter, as per information obtained from Camaro5 along with the owners manual. I passed the 1500 mile point on the 4th of July and proceeded to run the car through some of its paces including accelerating above 4000RPM and a little faster then the 80mph restriction. I by no means drove the car to its limit, but soon found that I could smell some burning oil and as the car had not been driven above 4000rpm at that point I believed it to be normal. I proceeded to park it over night, with the smell of burning oil filling my garage. The next morning I found there was a quite heavy pattern of oil dripping from below the car.

Still hoping for the best I turned the car into the dealership I purchased it from for a post break-in period inspection, oil change, and hopefully to hear the fluid leaking was a normal issue. The spray of oil from the night previous covered a vast portion of the underside of the car and had wrapped onto the rear quarter panel and back of the vehicle.
Congratulations on the new Camaro ZL1. Please let us know if your dealership was able to take care of these issues for you. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me at your convenience.

I would be pretty upset but do realize things happen. It sucks being the person with the problems. The key is having a good dealer and a good mechanic. They can both take care of you and get things squared away.

Demand new drivetrain. Good friend of mine currently going through a similar scenerio with his 12 F250 Pickup, the number 8 cylinder let go, the dealership wants to replace only the shortblock but he is pushing for complete engine replacement, it's no easy task as Ford is not caving thus far. At this point his truck is sitting at the dealer awaiting the outcome. Needless to say he isn't happy and told the dealer yesterday he wants a new engine or they keep the truck and he hires a lawyer.

Good catch CAM ZL1 on the wire bundle.. In the aircraft industry, we called that condition "chaffing" and in this case, it not only can cause system failures but worse yet a fire caused by shorted hot wires to ground. Chevy should at least look into their production line to make sure that this is just an isolated case.
Like to make one note about the engine compartment wire bundle routing, I've noticed at least on my car, there are many areas of "chaffing condition" which was corrected with adding teflon tape to mitigate the condition. I think they can do a better job.
But with all that being said, I still loooooove my ZL1!!

I just checked on Camaro5, that came out 7/10/12, it said that at least the MY 13 ZL1's are excluded from the 60 day return. All the other Camaro's are included. It doesn't state anything about the 12's.:(

No big deal. Trust me I wish it wasn't so and they were built in Wixom.

Thank you for the heads up. It is good to have advance info like this so we can check ours out before damage occurs. Thank you very much again!

And, you may want to check the Master Cylinder vacuum lines that run to the intake under the engine cover. I found my hose was being chaffed buy the engine cover and did my own mod to fix it. Here was my original post on that issue FYI.
