They're just waiting to be assembled into "our" car.

Oh and they did reengineer the rear suspension to some degree
With the ZL1 being out for such a short time and the 1LE not even out yet, I don't know if they would then release a Z/28 on top of that. Isn't the 6th Gen coming out MY 16 or is that just a rumor?

Yes, Gen-6 Camaro will arrive in '15 as a MY '16 offering...

...which means MY '13-'14-'15 will be derivatives of Gen-5. MY '13-'13.5 (?) is pretty well spoken for, leaving MY '14 and '15 to be finalized.

Not to incite anyone, but if Ford can concoct an Atlas Rocket to power its GT 500 for only two MYs (the likelihood of 662 hp in the next-Gen IRS Stang is remote), can GM not create a "suitable" ZEE for a similar time period?

That, my friends, is the $45-50,000 question...

If GM is willing, then why haven't the built it yet? Why wasnt it announced right after release? I mean what would be more awesome than the return of the Camaro lead by the iconic Camaro powered by the LS7?

Sales drive variations of existing models. The ZL1 and 1LE will lead the way for MY 13. 14 should be the Z/28. 15 is the LS9 ZL1 as the 5th Gen goes out with a blaze of glory.

The ZL1 was to be the Z28. The Boss enters the picture and an outcry regarding the content of the then Z28 from the faithful Z28 crowd is heard and wha la it becomes a ZL1.
From a marketing stand point you have to keep the excitement going. Remember every 6 months???

The ZL1 was revealed just a couple months after the BOSS if I remember right. I don't know if the ZL1 was ever really the Z28. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't see how it ever could have been. It has nothing in common with the Z28.

An LS9 ZL1 Camaro would be way more expensive than the current ZL1. If people think the LS7 is too expensive for the Z/28, there's no way in Hell the LS9 would ever see the underside of a Camaro's hood from the factory.

That was the common thought on the LSA.

Yes, I think that the ZL1 at least in the early stages and possibly even mere months before the debut, it was to be considered a "Z/28" people scoffed, we complained and the name got changed. proof is, SLP owned the rights to the ZL1 mnameplate and shortly before the release of GM's ZL1 SLP and GM worked out a deal that allowed SLP to sell their current ZL1's and then shortly after GM used it.

aaaaaannnnnndddddd....the only reason the 1LE option is even available in my opinion before a Z/28 is its meant to be the under pinnings of the Z/28 but the engine that GM intends on using in the car is not available for mass production yet aka GenV DI 5.3L or 6.2L Look, agree with me or not, the true competitor to the Boss 302 is the Z/28 always has been...if the blue oval boys can stay true to their heritage and make an engine that has same displacement, 7,500 redline and 444HP I am damn sure that the general can squeeze out a 5.3L, 7500 redline DI engine with 475HP and we would all be happy. while our engine might not be a "302" the 5.3L has significant heritage value to GM purists and would settle fine with the masses. Build the damn engine, put it in a 1SS+1LE and you now have hot cakes. end rant.

A crate LSA is less than half the price of a crate LS9 from what I have seen. Maybe they will built it and just sell the car for $65k.

I may very well be wrong and the Z/28 prototype could be sitting in some building right now just getting finished.
