I hate reading threads like this and I feel for the OP. I can't see why the tech says its fixed and then it immediately starts blowing oil again. They need to test drive the car a little longer before returning it to the customer. If its a bad seal or two, they should be replaceable. I'm sure its fixable, but the regional service rep or someone higher at GM needs to be aware of how this is being handled.

As already mentioned, I would be very disappointed to have a "non numbers matching" collectors car like this. Understanding there is a process to follow for this sort of thing, I feel for the OP. Hope it works out for you bud.

Do you really think everysingle COPO car produced is 100% numbers matching as it was the day from the factory? Best of luck to the OP I believe the dealership will have him back up and ready to go soon

I feel your pain. I never had a brand new car with this many problems right off the bat. In fact i took possession of the car less than 24 hours before it went back into the shop. True me, i feel for you.

I hadn't yet heard back from the service manager at the dealership so I went ahead and called them around noon today. He thought a new crate motor would be the next step, to which I brought up the possability of a buyback and he said he completely agreed with my feeling that the car was no longer "new" even if the crate motor prooved flawless. The service manager said he was going to make a call to his GM Service Rep and an hour or two later he called me back with the news that they were going ahead with a replacement motor and that they were going to have a GM engineer come to the dealership I assume to oversee the replacement. I had asked if I could contact the GM Service Rep directly but as large corporate bureaucracies go, I as the customer have no direct ability to contact that level.
The service tech who has been working on the issue brought up two more possabilities for the source of the leak, one being a matter of porosity in the block somewhere above the rear plate. I am a Journeyman Tool & Die Maker by trade and hearing that there could be such drastic porosity in such a precision engine is quite disturbing. I can't see in batch casting processes only one motor having this issue, and accordingly if that is in fact the issue I assume there will be at least some more instances of oil leaks whether severe as I would classify mine or more of a CTS-V constant but minimal leak. The other thought the service tech had was that at high engine RPM, above the 5,000 mark that oil pressure somewhere in the engine was causing a seal to blow out and leak, once again something I do not expect from a precision sport car. I called the service department back a few moments ago and stated that if in fact I have no choice other then to take this ZL1 it is only fair that they replace the scored and burnt exhaust, another point that the service manager said seemed reasonable but that would have to be run by the GM Service Rep. I called the GM Customer Service rep that was going to get back to me on Wednesday or Thursday after researching the situation farther, they stated they too would need to contact the GM Service Rep that seems content to repair the car. At this point I am thoroughly frustrated at the situation as you can imagine. If I look at this situation from the point of collectability I do think a ZL1 with a driveline replacement and repair along with things like oil splattering every surface on the underside of the car will come back as major negatives. If I were looking to buy a used ZL1 and found a service record this extensive even if done under the GM Warrenty it would effect the cars value. Not to mention the fact that I have been in and out of every loaner car including an 05' Malibu whose best days were long behind it. I also realize that getting into a new "new" ZL1 could come out to be a several month long process like it was to get MY12 #1526. In the climate I live in it could mean the first opportunity I have to drive a new car being April 13'. Thanks for all of the support and I will keep this updated until I get to some sort of resolution. |

Very sad to hear all this and I and many others are happy to see you updating the thread, even though it's probably difficult.
Keep it up and we're all rooting for you. // Stefan |

Damn, that really stinks... It is still the same GM just with a different twist... They only wanna see you at purchase time, anything after that they aren't worried about... I said it before, there are probably 40 or 50 other people in line looking to buy a car like yours and that's what they focus on, after you buy it it's a done deal for them....They would rather not hear from you because Now you aren't the type of customer they desire... It's all a numbers game, if they sold, say, 50,000 ZL1s, do you think they would be concerned about your issues, probably not.... The bottom line is to sell as many cars regardless of a few problems here and there.. Seems like QC was a Big Fail and where is this so called FBOD father, he touts the car to the high heavens and where is his assist now that you have problems...

![]() I was in the old car hobby for almost twenty years. '68-'72 GM A-bodies were my thing Anyway...'numbers matching'. Stop worrying people. Respectfully, a lot of people here are acting as if they have a 1948 Delahaye or a Swiss cheese Catalina or a Thunderbolt. With all due recognition of the car's exclusivity and dollar value, you don't have a goldmine. You have a cool car. Please don't lose any rest over "matching numbers" on a brand-new car. Like Pewter says- on one hand, you have the GM docs. On the other, it's a brand new car, not a lost Picasso Personally I think GM owes Cam a whole car, because if this is just the drive-line trouble, this story is far from over

I guess "Customer Satisfaction" isn't a GM strong point in 2012.... I agree, he should get an entire New car......
