Brake fluid change

Is it neccessary to change your brake fluid if you are going to the track, if so is this something that the dealership should handle? I have heard that DOT 5 should be used to replace the DOT 3 or 4? that comes stock? Do you have to switch back to DOT 3 after track day?

Go with Motul RBF 600 or RBF 660 and you will have both street and track covered. And according to the ZL1 owners manual (Page 9-7) you are NOT to use any silicone based or DOT-5 fluid.

I think it depends on how hard you plan on pushing it. Just some fun laps with plenty of cool down, I'd leave it alone. If the OE fluid boils and loses the brakes, probably pushed too hard and it will need more than a better brake fluid. Cars pushed to a red hot rotor race pace need tons of brake maintenance before and after.

Do you know how the stock SS brakes hold up on the track? Wondering because the 1LE's brakes aren't upgraded. Is auto crossing harder on brakes than a road course would be? Lower speed, but more stops I would guess.

Change the fluid before and after. Or at least after if you don't have time to put fresh fluid in before the track.

The stock Brembos on the SS are perfectly fine. The weak links in the system are 1. Brake fluid 2. Pads 3. Lines in that order. For basic HPDE with 20-30 minute sessions, you have to do the fluid and better pads at a minimum. Lines are just an extra precaution when pushing the car hard. 1LE will do just fine with a set of good stree/track pads and fluid.

So what's the proper procedure to fully flush the brake fluid? I read somewhere you need a special tool in order to flush the ABS module. This true?
