Engine Power is Reduced: Annoying

Code p0601 is what comes up after I get it start.

I've had a tune on her for about 7 months now. Did about 5 Road Course events with no issues. It's been months since I've done any Road Course events.

Last Thursday she shutdown at a light. That day I had put gas in from a gas station I never used before. That same day(morning) I drove through some puddles that sprayed pretty hard under my car. Was wondering if one or both of those incidents could have caused the problem.

After she shuts down I would have to wait a few minutes for her to start. 5 to 10 minutes. I don't know if taking the key out allows it to turn back on faster. Anyway Engine Power is Reduced pops up and the car shutsdown. She'd come back on after a few minutes with the engine light. The code according to my scanner(obd2 & droid app) is p0601. I would drive her with no issues while the engine light is on. However when the engine light goes away eventually the problem returns.

I checked the connections to the throttle body and intake and visually everything looks good. I pulled the big fuses under the hood as well. Dealers may trip on the tune so I'm trying to see if there is something I can fix.

The car drives fine with or without the engine light on....no difference in feel power wise.

Any ideas.

P0601 says the ECM needs to be replaced. I hope yours is still under warranty.

So they are going to trip on the tune and headers.

Did some reading and it seems some who just changed the PCM had the problem return.

More than likely, they frown on replacing parts that could have been affected by a tune. No need to flash it back either, they'll know that too.

Might just go to the guys who put the tune. I can order the PCM from gmpartsdirect for 156.00. I will call them on Monday.

I unplugged the PCM, the MAF and throttle body connections and sprayed electrical cleaner. I ran through some puddles hard the same day this happened. I remember on my M35 while I had my computer go bad because of under spray of water from a car wash. I'm thinking this must have happened to my ss as well but not as bad of problem. Pulled a few fuses as well and letting it sit for a few hours. Fingers are crossed. Loaded up with gas from where I regularly go and put seafoam in as well. Will let the car sit for a while to see if the problem returns.

Some had this happen for bad gas, gas cap not on properly or the spring the cap went bad, fuel station loading up gas while putting gas in their car or moisture. Same day I put gas and the same day I drove through puddles pretty hard. Hoping is just one of the two that caused the issue.

I doubt gas is the problem. all the gas stations pretty much get their gas from the same places (wholesalers), only the additives change. on top of that, there are filters on the tanks, the pumps, and in your car. it's highly unlikely enough water made it into your fuel system to stop the car completely. and leaving your gas cap off entirely wouldn't cause those problems. that just triggers the check engine light to alert you to a leak in the vapor recovery system. its pretty much telling you fuel vapor is escaping into the atmosphere which keeps the tree huggers from sleeping at night.

personally, I'd take it somewhere and spend the 50-100 in diagnostic time to find out exactly what is wrong with it. it can get pretty expensive just replacing parts hoping it takes care of the problem.

Will do that if I what I've done doesn't correct the issue. What I've done can't hurt I guess. However underspray from a car wash screwed up my m35 ecm - so I don't put it pass the water.

you'll probably have to take it to the dealership to get it programmed too.

Yeah I did some reading and it appears I'd have to see them regardless if the issue returns. I just don't believe in coincidence too much. For me to have gone to a gas station I never used and to have driven through several deeps puddles and have the puddles splash pretty hard under the car makes me think its one or the other.

And in my Vette I'd go to one station and she'd run weird - turn around and go to another on the same street and she'd run fine. I went back and forth on this for months to see if the station was the problem and it was. Who knows if I was really getting 93 octane.

Lucky indeed. I'm gonna order one from gmpartsdirect for 156 if this issue remains after going through my tank of gas.
