So say you opt for a Mylink without NAV and you don't pay for OnStar nav, would Mylink then use your phone to navigate?

No. The only solution at that point is use an app on the phone for navigation. MyLink will not be aware of it though.

Just to be clear here, you can still get a Camaro SS with a CD player and basic bluetooth, right? MyLink isn't going to be standard equipment, is it?

MyLink is standard for all but LS

I just got done reading up on Honda's HondaLink, which is their version of Chevy's MyLink and will be standard in the higher end 2013 Accords.

Honda is going to keep offering customers a CD changer with their smartphone link system. I'm not very happy that GM is not.

Do not tell me to quit using CDs and get with the modern times. I'm not going to sacrifice sound quality for ease of use. This isn't going from records to tapes or tapes to CDs. Both the sound quality AND the ease of use is there on a CD. Not on an iPod.

Shows how people simply don't care about the sound quality of what they listen to, probably as little as they care about music in general considering what passes for popular music today.

If GM was wise they'd offer a navigation system WITH a CD changer AND MP3/iPod/Pandora etc. connectivity in the Camaro.
Firstly, thanks to Tag on photo XM 59 map. I have XM radio currently and did not know that station available. Awesome look! I will have to check it out. I am wondering if it also talks to you like Nav?

Fastball, I comply with your opinion. Good message. I also understand a prev msg saying it would require GM dash redesign and R&D; costly. Looks like GM doing upgrade entertainment improvements as time goes by. I like and approve of your suggestion for future upgrades. I think feedback important and GM would consider during feasability studies.

lol My ear probably not as good as yours, but can usually pick up what seems to be better music quality sound. My wallet could afford a Panasonic Viera 3-D, wireless internet capable with a compatible Blu-Ray and Home entertainment sound system. All Panasonic. I have hooked all together up with ability to play any media back to 8-tracks. All these music sounds relatively great to me, but no doubt, there is better sound quality equip available somewhere today.

When asked, FBodfather stated that they did not have enough space to package the screen and nav with a CD (notwithstanding the fact that EVERY aftermarket audio company seems to be able to do just that). Given the fact that I haven't bought a CD in at least ten years, and that I use BT to stream my music, I'm fine with it.

This is the radio section from the 2013 Camaro Parts Catalog

If it doesn’t do CD's, what’s item #5? They call it a navigation map disk, in the description. I'm not sure what you would need this for, if the maps are on a SD card. If this diagram is accurate, and I'm assuming it is since it's from GM's own 2013 Camaro Parts Catalog, it kind of takes away Fbodfather’s argument that they left the CD player out for packaging reasons.

Well, they made a big one! They went to the trouble to draw a picture and give it name, of something that doesn't exist. I could see it being an error, if they left something out. But when you draw something in and give it a name that fits the device, that's more than just an error.

Now we need a GM engineer to help us out here......

As a 15 year veteran of mobile car fi repair and installation, there is a very strong possibly that the head unit does in fact have a disc player inside with a possibility for firmware upgrades on disc by technicians who would then know how to remove the bezel to do firmware upgrades via DVD ROM. Which is what I surmise to be part# 5 on the diagram, the firmware DVD ROM. I have seen things like this before. For whatever reason, GM has chosen to keep the disc player from playing a standard audio CD, (even though ANY AND EVERY disc player on planet earth can play a simple audio CD). Then GM may have designed the front bezel trim without the CD slot to prevent people from trying to play a CD.

One simple, cheap, and perfect solution to this would have been to have engineers program the software of the GUI to simply bring up simple CD player functions and disc info on the display when a disc is entered.

I would even submit to all you guys who like to get into the guts of computer software that there may in fact be a way to reprogram this to play a disc. Crack a code so to speak.... you'd be surprised what you can do when you get into the software of modern cars. And then all you'd need to do is cut a slot into the plastic front bezel and you have your CD player!
