Pedders XA adjustability?

I just recently had Pedders XA coilovers installed on my car. First off, I love the coilovers. The ride quality is 100% better than the lowering springs I had on my car (for only 1 week).

I had the shop put the firmness setting on 10 (front and back). Under the front hood, you can easily adjust the front coils. But from what I can see, the only way to adjust the rear coils is by removing the rear tires.

Is there a way to adjust the rear coil firmness without removing the rear tires?

Yes! You have to sit down behind the rear tires and look at the top of the coilover. Reach up there to the inside and you should be able to grab the adjustment dial.

On the driver's side sitting behind the tire, you want to turn the dial toward the front of the car to stiffen and toward the rear to soften.

On the passenger side it's the opposite. Turn dial toward the rear to stiffen and toward the front to soften.

It's kind of an akward position, but much easier that jacking the car up and taking tires off.

Good to go???? Welcome to the Pedder's Nation!

Thanks!

Do you have to jack the rear of the car? I don't see how sitting down behind the tire would allow you to see the top of coilover.

For the wifes car,I usually lay down next to the car, feet pointing towards the front, and wrap my arm around the bottom of the tire and reach up to make the adjustment. Quick and easy. Same for my SuperCar Coilovers but there are two adjustments.

On the money! Thats the awkward position I was referring to. Do it once and the next time is cake.

I approach the car from the rear. Reach over the top of the sway bar and you can find the knobs (right hand for driver's side, left for pass side). You don't have a lot of room for your hand, so you will use your thumb and forefinger to turn the knobs sort of from the sides. Yes it's a pain at first, but after a few times you'll get the hang of it.

I'm new to the world of adjustable coilovers. Can someone explain this to me..are there two types of settings you can control on these XA's?
1 - Ride Height
2 - Soft/Firm (Damping?)

or are they one in the same?

On the XAs, ride height is determined during installation. You decide how low you want to go and make the adjustments then. Once these are "locked" in, you need to get an alignment. Changing ride height later affects the alignment.

The damping is an adjustment which changes the valving internally in the coil over and only affects the softness/firmness of the ride. This has no affect on alignment.

After getting the coils installed, I called the performance shop that installed them.
They told me I would have to remove the rear tires to adjust the coils.

I guess I should contact them. I'm also glad I asked this question. Otherwise I would have been waiting a lot of time taking off the rear wheels.
