The 427 corvette is badass, but it's still not the top of the corvette food chain. The ZL1 however is up there, for a stock car at least.

My dad was having the same exact dilemma. He wanted one of the two. He liked the Camaro looks a little better, not to mention the cheaper price tag, and he'll be ordering a ZL1 here soon I hope!

Stick with your ordered ZL1. I can guarantee you it'll turn more heads than a 427 'vette.

Also, you'll be another ZL1 owner in GA, which is reason enough to get the ZL1! (ok maybe I'm just saying that cause I want you to get a ZL1 )
Either way, my wife and I plan to visit Madison sometime. Maybe we'll see you there!

You definitely should! It's a nice old town feel compared to everywhere else in GA. (in my opinion)

You can park that new ride on main street and have a leisurely walk around town. They actually just made a new park 2 years ago and it's a great place to relax.

Anyways, you'll have to see it all for yourself!

P.S.: Have you been to an ACE5 meet before?

On the Vette... it is the last year of the C6 and dealers are securing C7 allocation right now by selling C6s (even 427 converts) at deep discounts. I would think you could by a 427 Vette for around 10k under sticker. If not, then keep shopping. I think the future collector value will be there for the 427 convertible, a one year car built in lesser numbers than the ZL1.

I doubt that very highly. The average Joe on the street doesn't know the difference between a V6 Camaro, SS Camaro and a ZL1.

Vettes always get more attention than a Camaro, especially a drop top.

The ZL1 and the 427 Vette are so different in so many ways for many reasons.

If you are looking for performance only, the 427 Vette will eat the ZL1 for lunch, especially in handling. There is way too much weight difference between the two and what the 427 will give up in rated horsepower, it more than gains it back in weight difference and weight distribution.

BUT - the ZL1 is another animal too. It's just heavier and a four seater - nothing wrong with that.

I would suggest you go drive a Vette first. They feel and handle completely different (I've driven them both).

Either way, you can't go wrong. Just don't expect the ZL1 to perform with the Vette. You can not argue with the laws of physics.

Depends on where you're at.

Not true in S. Cal. I was shocked at how many recognized the Zl1 immediately.

I can say for a fact that where I live, a stock ZL1 will get more attention than a stock 427 corvette 'vert. The Zl1 catches the eye more, especially as I see it. And at a local car show in Athens a red Zl1 was parked next to a red SS convertible and the two were grabbing more attention than the plethora of classics in the same show.

Also, idk how the OP ordered his ZL1, but a 427 'vette vs ZL1 and how i would cosmetically order them.:

(props to gmgdave for the bad ass ZL1 I stole pics of )

I know which I'd rather drive. And which would leave me more pocket $$$.

Don't get me wrong, the Z06 is a bad ass car! What I would give for a 100th anniversary edition Z06!
But in my opinion the ZL1 wins out practicality and price wise.

Agreed. Here in ATL a bunch of people stop by at one of the local dealerships to check out the ZL1 (if they even have one in stock, lol). People know what it is. Not everyone of course, but a lot of people at least notice it's different.

A lot depends on your commute. My 2006 Vette is an auto and is my DD when the weather cooperates. It's also supercharged and lays down about 540rwhp. The 427 will be alternated with the 2006 on the nice days. I will have to row through the gears quite a bit as there are 12 traffic lights and 5 stop signs with a 45mph max speed all in a 7 mile one way commute.

I had planned to get the ZL1 in an auto trans because it was going to be my wife's car. She is happy taking the 2006 Vette as her "new" car instead. Long term plans for the 427 will be to add headers and a supercharger.

We don't have the need for a back seat in a performance car and let's face it, the Camaro convertible's back seat is not intended for adults and I don't have any children. For the roughly $10K price difference, I'll be happier being a two Vette owner.

I do appreciate the work that went into the ZL1 and I would never disparage it. My biggest gripe was the $2600 GG tax that you get absolutely nothing for your money. No GG tax on either of my Vettes.

Perhaps one day if we tire of the 2006 Vette, we'll get a ZL1 convertible.

As a vette and ZL1 owner, I find them two completely different cars. I don't think the vette is a good daily driver and I think the ZL1 is a great daily driver that is still fun to drive. If you can only have one (or only want one), then consider what it will be primarily used for. I know plenty who have vettes for daily drivers, but I don't think it is as good a choice.

I've already found some reasonable deals on 427s. There's one near me with the 1SC package, which builds to $90,570 on Chevrolet's site, being offered for $81,408. Not chump change, but certainly reasonable.

I'm starting to think, though, that the 427 will garner more attention than I want and might be a pain in the ass to drive everyday. Guess I'll sleep on it.

Thanks to all who have joined in on this conversation! Whatever I decide I should have some photos soon.

How old are you? How tall are you? Will this be a long term purchase? These would be huge factors in my decision. ZL1 More comfortable roomier cabin and smoother ride. Vette Sexier. ZL1 Just as fast maybe. Vette alot Sexier. ZL1 more bang for the Buck. Vette Really Really Sexy. ZL1 less to insure less conspicuous 2 extra seats and more cargo. Vette Damn that thing is beautiful! ZL1 comes with an optional sunroof/convertible? Vette is what I would pick. ZL1 is what I should pick.
