IF the new brackets make the top stop getting pinched, then the whole mechanism doesnt need to be replaced. seeing the pics posted of the new ones completed, it looks like the rails sit higher than stock. so they may be going in the right direction.

i looked up the part number for the water management bag and list price was like 215 bux. so IMO, EVERY top that needs to be replaced should get an updated bag. if list is 215, it prob costs them about 100. to me that would be just cheap insurance on GMs part to replace them all when replacing the top. unless the car has the updated bag, then obviously they wouldnt need to unless there was a problem. worst case senario, if GM wont pay for the bag, i would even consider coughing up the 200 to have it done for my own piece of mind. just sayin

Got mine back yesterday with new top, must admit I was impressed everything seems fine. Can not put it down for several days though. Dealer had it sent out to a private shop, looks like they did a good job. They charged alot more than what GM wanted to pay. Took 3 to 3 1/2 days.

Forgot does anyone have the part number for the new or upgraded tonneau cover. Mine has flown off once and is separating. Also any part number for what they are using to tape or hook the two wires together in the trunk lid?

Sorry to take so long to get back, here it is.

When i showed the dealer what the 2012 looked like it is the same trunk lid but with the added hole for the wire bundle out the bottom as well as out the back (like ours). What my dealer and i did was that they would turn my liner into the 2012 adding the hole and repair the trunk seal under warranty. If you leave it the same it will still rub as it is too close to the seal. They did a good job and the wire appears to be away from the seal and the cut hole looks factory in the liner. No "super smooth" tape was used.

I'm not positive but i think that they had to remove the liner anyway to get the wire bundle out of the way to put the seal on.

I hope this helps you out, good luck!

So is there an escation process or do I go straight to the BBB? Any advice would be appreciated.
That is their first line of defense; blow you off with bullshit. They tried that with me and I told them to go pound sand. Kept pressing with the same people. Finally had a meeting with one of their "engineers" (who had only a highschool education. He would be - what we in the business call - a Tech), the district manager and a rep from the dealership. I hit them up with all the support on here (won't wash off, I have a hole developing on both sides, if normal then why do others not have the problem, the Josh Holder video on here, the fact that there is material gone, my previous histories with other verts etc.).

They did not have a response to any of those points (other than "this does not look normal"). They said they would get back to me. A week later (after no response) I went back to the dealership and the dealership said "It looks like they will do nothing for you. It is normal" (yes in spite of the facts that I gave them and their statement that it is not normal).

Immediately called the "engineer" who was there and stated my postition again. He actually said it was because they didn't think their current fixes would solve the problem (breath of fresh air). I proceeded to give him information on successful fixes (that were all connected up to replacing top and mechanism), that I got a ton of support from our members (eternally grateful to all who helped me. I'd state names, but I'm not sure you would want that info out there. But you know who you are. Thanks again). Got a call a week later from the district rep and the dealership offering to put their newest top design on. We went back and forth on the mechanism, but they claim that it is not available any more and they only way to get those parts is to get them individually (which I believe).

I could see that they were setting themselves up for BBB or legal action by saying that they "tried to help me but I refused", so I took the current top (which has maybe 300 miles with about 12 cycles on it. Looks good except for the cables/wires that they put above the bow in a couple of spots).

Anyway, I wrote all this out so that you could see what you would have to do (if you don't want to go legal or BBB). It will require you to be a bit of a bulldog and refuse to take their "blow you off, bean counter" answers as a proper response. They will insinuate that you don't know what you are talking about and they will act like these marks are just totally normal and they just wash away. Stick to your guns. They know that their design is flawed, but they are trying to get rid of as many people as they can by giving that bullshit answer. it gets rid of some, but it shouldn't get rid of anybody on this forum. You have too much info and support to accept that answer.

Bulllett is right man, keep the volume turned up and be persistent. You paid for a car that may not be what was advertised. Do not accept anything less than a new mechanism with the new top for your car, of course they will refuse you, but document that you tried to get them to fix it RIGHT the first time, and the second, etc. Keep accurate and detailed records of everyone and every date/time you speak to about the problem. Get a case number through GM (not that it will do anything, but you followed protocol). And last but not least, get a copy of each RO with date in/out and mileage in/out for every warranty visit with your car. I wish I could elaborate more about this, but unfortunately cannot right now. All I can say is keep those accurate and detailed records, you may need fall back on those in the future.

Good deal. They did the seal replacement on the vert, but I never did look at the placement of the wire loom. I need to check both the coupe and the vert to see where the loom is at. That's if I ever get the Vert out of the dealer's service bay long enough. I keep forgetting.

This is great to hear that your dealership took the steps to pinpoint the issue you experienced. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Boy you guys got me so paranoid. I find myself going over the top every day looking for signs of failure. Luckily I haven't found anything yet. Maybe one day I can just forget these things.

Day 14 today on this current service visit for top #3. And counting. Thus far, over 100 days out of service since January 2012.

That's never going to happen, I really love my Vert and no matter what it takes if I do have a top problem I will work with my dealer to get it fixed.

My best bet is to unsubscribe from all the problem threads that way I won't worry about it until or if it happens.

Everybody that is having problems I hope get theirs fixed soon.
Bye bye...
