WTF is a Cybil? And why are you talking sh** about the automatic V8 when you drive an automatic?

I've seen his sig too and it annoys me.

But I don't fall for stinky bait.

I have an SS manual trans, it runs on 8 all the time. He's referring to the active fuel management of the L99 which I thank people for buying into, therefore saving us from paying a gas guzzler tax.

For those that are young to remember, Sybil is the true story of a young woman, whose childhood was so harrowing to her that she developed at least 13 different personalities.

This is used only to remind some of the V8 owners that chose to put down V6 owners that the given number of cylinders they are using at any given time may not be 8.

As for talking sh*** I challenge you to show me were I have done such a thing.

hell no.

a lot of people miss having a manual in a ferrari or lambo. to lots its not as fun. they did it because its proven more efficient.

A lot of people miss having a manual trans in a Ferrari or Lambo and other cars, yes I agree with you but a lot more than that are now enjoying these new advanced and "More efficient transmissions" like you said.

More efficient, not meaning more fuel efficient but more precise, more predictable. A lot of fun when pushing the car to its limit.

I am not trying to defend either one but I prefer Automatics of today because they were improved to bring more fun to driving. Manual Trans were not improved since they were created ( 3 pedals, clutch...they've only added 1 or 2 more gears for fuel efficiency) I think hey should have also evoluate: ex: Clutch-less Manual Trans or give the option of an Automatic mode when not feeling like changing gears....

The Automatic can be both Automatic and Manual !
The Manual can only be Manual as of now.

Maybe one day we'll see a Hybrid Manual Trans on sports cars with a switch to become Automatic when needed.

Why are only the left knees bad on people? Excuse my ignorance, but if you have a right bad knee shouldn't driving in general be uncomfortable? The right has to operate the gas and brake still on an auto. When I had problems with my knee that I have since resolved, driving an auto with the gas/brake was still uncomfortable especially in stop and go traffic.

manuals are a long way from becoming extinct, and they'll always be in cars. they're more fuel efficient, and they're considerably cheaper. sub-compacts, and compacts will always be available in stick shifts. they may disappear in mid size and full size car. trucks will also always be available in stick shifts. in fact, I'd say the disappearance of MT's is largely a thing of domestic vehicles.

an no, an automatic can never be manual. it can simulate one, but it can never be one.

Really? ...I think that's strange...but whatever floats your boat. It seems like the transmission would have a huge affect on how you experience the car everyday...much more then the color anyway.

You missed the point here, I'm not saying they will be extinct, but they will be less and less popular, maybe for cost efficient compact cars.... cheaper to maintain.... for trucks ..... but here we are talking about Sports Cars ! Fun ! Power ! Control......

An Automatic can Simulate a Manual but a Manual will NEVER simulate an Automatic !

they'll never disappear from sports cars either. mustangs, camaro's, Z's, and a host of others will always have manual options. just because 2 Italian car makers have gone only auto is hardly an indication of where the entire market is heading.

but I do agree, they will probably never be much more common than they are now. I believe it's about 15-20% of cars. it will probably stay there for the foreseeable future

and why on earth would a manual want to simulate an auto? that would be like a motorcycle that also came with pedals

Well, we would want a Manual to simulate an Auto because sometimes we just don't feel like do that extra effort to change the gears manually, it would be nice to have the car do it automatically, ex: In heavy traffic, tired of using the clutch....
