That depends...here its a judgement call.

I know officers who do these kinds of stops all the time. Not every department has enough units to back up calls for an officer who is scared to walk up to a car with more than one occupant. That would be a nice cushy job.

Just install normal tail-lamps so that your car does not look suspicious looking.

I agree the tinting looks cool though.

I would disagree. There is no reason that cop should have been anywhere in his trunk. And maybe Texas is special, but I've never heard of a cop searching a car without asking the owner's permission, or having a warrant. Plus, if the driver had been sipping on something, it's very unlikely he would have been under .08 (even if it wasn't in the bloodstream yet). I would be curious to hear a some Leo opinion on this as well.

As far as the tint... you're hosed. Like others said, don't bother fighting that one. As far as the cop's actions... if you feel wronged (assuming there is nothing you're not telling us), I would definitely file a formal complain with his department about that one.

Ive got no sympathy for the OP. He brags about working stings with the cops in another city. Thats one of those little snitches that ask an adult to buy them beer or cigs, and ends up busting the adult and the store worker.
What goes around comes back to bite you.

But if you want to beat the ticket, u can take the tint off, take a picture of ur car and go to court and tell the judge you took it off. Or fake it and use a picture of your tail end before u put the tint on. Or if you know someone with a black camaro without tints, put your license plate on their car and take a pic and take that to court with you

i wouldnt take it to court becasue some states different tents are legal and not legal, but you could go to the internal affairs office and file a complaint agents the officer for his rude conduct and behavior. It is possible to have him pay out of pocket for the destruction of you "ray bans"

What did you do in these so called stings?

Every state has different laws, many municipalities have thier own. The advice given by people from other states is not likely to apply the same way in Minnesota, eh.

Remember, when you go to court, you are presumed a dirtbag, while your opponent is a highly esteemed police officer. Pick your battles, but before doing so you need to evaluate your strategic (dis) advantage. May not be fair, but life isn't fair.

I got lucky... that last time a cop wanted to perform a search of my vehicle (which I granted permission for, and, was given the "deal" of not being written up for the 25MPH+ over the speed limit I had been doing), he searched very diligiently, but then replaced everything carefully and neatly in its original place.

Sounds like an illegal search, but since he found nothing and did not charge you with anything related to the search there is nothing to fight. Tinted tail lights I'll never understand, but a losing battle for sure. Best thing to do is file a complain with the troopers if you car was damaged. Wasn't there do not sure what his probable cause was. In MS you can be arrested for any traffic offense....as previously stated cuffs for officer safety. Three of you one of him...
