Snap, Crackle, Pop Exhaust-- Stock or Not

Finally got my SS (named BlackJack), and ended up going the pre-owned route (2010). I was assured that Jack was completely stock, and based on my own knowledge/ exam, everything checked out to be stock. Jack is my secondary vehicle, so I really didn't get a chance to become completely familiar with him until day 3. After driving for a while, I noticed that when I take my foot off of the gas while in second, third, or fourth gear, Jack growls and sometimes pops in a nasty but not obnoxious way. It actually sounds pretty HOT to me, but my concern is about how hot the car gets and the smell as of late. If I open the console and put my hand on the bottom, it's hot to the touch. After driving and I park and walk past the rear tires, the heat that comes out from between the wheel spokes is very hot. Over the past couple of days, I've noticed an ever so slight burning smell in the garage after parking. If I didn't point it out to someone else, they probably wouldn't notice the smell (but I notice everything). There are burn marks on the exhaust pans underneath the car also. The exhaust tips don't have any names embossed on them, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's stock... I've driven the 2011-13, but not the 2010 until I got Jack, so I'm not as familiar with the stock sound as I'd like to be. I figured I'd ask my fellow members before going to a professional for information. Is all of the heat/ the sound normal?

it is due strictly to one thing only. spark timing settings during deceleration fuel cutoff. it is fixable with a tune and more pronounced with an aftermarket exhaust.

it is normal for stock. curiously, gm tuned it out of the zr1. more decerning buyers prefer a smooth decel. hahaha.

a tune won't fix it unless you ask them to.

I've run over plastic bags before which have made contact with the exhaust. Burnt bags smell for a while - especially if you don't drive the car often & park in a garage. Look for marks on the pipes.

I hear the popping through my stock exhuast. It doesn't bother me since it's quiet.

Wait until you get an aftermarket exhaust lol. I have outlaws on mine and it sounds like gunshots sometimes.

LOL. Gunshots... Would love to hear your exhaust 2012SS.

Very excited to get my mod on, SSDan. Will definitely share with C5 when I do.

You don't know Jack!

Lol sorry couldn't help it, welcome but two things please refrain from naming your car and remember its not a C5 so don't call it that ( C5's are 5th Gen corvettes) you have a 5th Gen Camaro SS (SS means Stock Sucks)

The popping is a manly thing so leave it alone, and start modding that bad aSS.

Also are you Ls3 or L99?

Enjoy!!

I popped a lot after doing an exhaust upgrade, then I added headers...... I have made people duck for cover sometimes when I am decelerating. I like the pops but I am ready for a cam ad possibly reducing the popping. I know what it is but so many people think it is a backfire, and I will admit, it does pop a little high pitched at times so I would like to get rid of that.

Hello all... Post number 2..

I had the slight decel pops with the stock exhaust..
recently went to a Hanksville Hot Rods Custom Exhaust System
A Magnaflow X flow Muffler was used in place of the resinators and 2 1/2 inch thick wall stainless custom mandrel bent pipe was run to the back. No mufflers in the back.

It still has the decel pop, maybe a bit worse but as the computer has caught up it seems to be somewhat better,,
not going to change the tune until the super charger is installed..
that might make a slight difference in the performance of my Camaro...

slight

crud.. sig pic wont show up.. will have to work on that...
