steering wheel bowtie removal?

Does the bowtie on the steering wheel just pop off and pop back in no problem?

it doesn't, not without destroying it. i removed mine a few days ago. i used a plastic pry tool and was really careful, but it still bent and snapped in half. there are about 8 prongs on the back of the bowtie that are secured to the airbag. i was trying to save it so i could repaint it but it was too messed up. luckily i had something else in mind before i tried to remove it. when i finish it i'll post some pics.
