Trading from 2011 A6 to 2012 M6

The other day i went to my dealer to try and trade up to a 2012 with a manual tranny and they only offered 23k for my 2011 2LT/RS! These people actually wanted 9K to trade up to the same car a year newer that actually had 1K less in options because of the manual tranny. Has anyone else done a trade like this?

Had an ls3. That engine is worth the 9k in my opinion.

As soon as you drive the new car off the car lot you have immediately lost at the very minimum $5000 if not more. When it is titled ( when you purchase the vehicle) it is officially a used car even if it only has 10 miles on it. By the way in the state of Texas (I'm sure different states have different rules or laws) a Dealer can drive a car up to 5000 miles and still sell it as new but they usually list it as a demo car. That is almost 15% of your mileage on the Factory Warranty!

That is why I have a hard time believing the posts on here that "I traded in my 2010 V6 for a 2011 or 2012 V8 and made out without losing money. I don't think it happens. Maybe someone gets lucky but the odds are you will lose your butt on a trade in no matter what year you are trading in. Cars depreciate, fast.

Just because I need some clarification, are you saying you want to trade your 2011 V6 A6 for a 2012 V6 M6?

Yea im not clear either, you wanted to trade up for an SS? A 2LT is not the same as a 2SS.

I think that is what the OP is saying after reading the post again a few times. Sounds like he or she wants a newer car with a manual tranny, at least that is what I get out of it now.

I can honestly say I haven't heard of anyone doing a trade like this. You will take a huge loss on this. If I were you, I'd wait a few years and enjoy the one you have.

You're better off trying to sell it to a private party in hopes of getting what you owe. And lucky us being Camaro owners they are holding their value really well.

Then you can walk into the dealer with a clean slate.

I dont know how many miles you have on yours, but I just traded my 2010 2LT/RS with 14k miles on it and they gave me $25k on trade towards a 2011 2SS/RS. Everyone told me that getting another V6 would have been a waste of money, so you should consider making the jump. The key is to negotiate hard and remember, you are in control. If you dont like the deal, you can walk away and find something else.

I wouldn't make a trade like that, you should do it right the first time and get an SS, unless you really love the V6.

I like your quote about being in charge. Many people let the salesman take over when in fact you are the one in charge of your destiny. You can make the deal or not. No one is forcing you to make the deal. Very, Very good advice SilveRS.

I guess the point is that as soon as you drive the car off the lot you lose money. I personally would not want to take a hit of $1500 or $750/month thrown out the door. If you weren't happy then it was a good trade but if I took $750 cash and lit it on fire in front of you on the 1st of the month for two mnoths in a row when your rent or house payment is due you might think different. You still lost 6-7% of your money in two months. I would rather make 6-7% in two months.
