Looking for info Heads/Cam

I'm about to toss in my new headers and know i need a tune, but I cant see wasting a couple of hundred for a tune just to get it tuned after I install heads and a cam.

What heads and cam are people recommending for a future Whipple 2.9L SC...?

LS3

Thanks,
M

Studying this myself and don't know enough to answer.

FYI: You don't need to tune right away, if I were you I'd wait a month or two til you know exactly what cam/heads to get.

Also I recently read that a cam and lt headers lowers boost in a super charger, something to consider.

If you buy all your parts from Jannetty Racing than your tune is free. So every upgrade or change you make will cost you ZERO to have it retuned.

Stock heads are good up to 1000 HP or 800 rwhp. Put that money into something else. I still run the stock L99 heads.

Long tubes will only work with rear mounted turbos, front mounts will take, usually, a custom shorty or manifold supplied with the kit.

There are certain cam grinds that favor boosted applications. Some favor high rpm applications, some are better for street, nitrous, road racing, etc. You pick your cam based on intended use. I have a cam in my drag car that is so big it won't idle under 1500, but the motor spins to 9K.

mast heads are works of art that belong on display. I'm not sure I'd get those dirty.

Call TSP and look into the PRC line of heads. You can have the factory LS3 heads ported or buy a complete aftermarket set.

Yeah stock heads are good up to those large power levels but that doesn't mean they don't make power. Come on SuperchargedSS, you know if you had put a ported or aftermarket set on that you would be making AT LEAST 20RWHP more than you are right now. It might have been the difference between a 10.0 consistant car and a 9.9 consistent car. Seriously though if your a L99 a ported or aftermarket set is a good investment when doing a cam because the heads have to come off anyway. If your a LS3 I would say its not worth it until you build the motor or have the heads off for some reason.
