the reason they say reverse is because reverse is geared lower than the tall first gear. it wont matter unless your on a steep hill but thats why they say reverse.
i always leave it in first and set the parking brake unless im at the track. no parking brake on hot rotors.

1st unless I'm on a down hill then reverse. I figure it may help if the e-brake should let go. I had it happen in my Corvette and it started to roll because it was in neutral...luckily I noticed and jumped in quickly!!

By this logic, wouldn't you want to park in 6th gear?

1st gear is numerically higher, thus the engine spins more per wheel rotation...more resistance to the car moving.

I never park in neutral. The parking brake is not nearly as strong as your engine compression in first gear or reverse.

I park in 1st with e-brake... my garage is level, but my driveway is a bit of a hill.

My 1st car a 69 Camaro 307 with a manual 3 speed , in order to remove the ignition key the transmission had to be in reverse to remove the key. Bought it used and the day I brought it home I frustrated myself for an hour trying to get the key out LOL! What did I know at the time as a 16 yr old haha.

I always park in 1st gear. Partly out of habit, mainly because I don't trust the parking brake enough to bet my entire car on it.

Level surface, 1st gear and parking brake on. If i'm parked facing down hill then 1st gear, parking brake and i turn my wheels to the curb. Parked up hill, 1st, parking brake and wheels faced away from curb.

Ever since I learned to drive, I was always thought to park, set the e-brake, let the car roll onto it (if on a hill), and then set the gearbox in 1st if the car was on a flat or uphill, or reverse if the car was pointed down a downhill. And I still park this way.

I've always used 1st and e-brake. Reverse is fine also.
