For the V6 guys it is a better deal. The tires that come with it are around $1,600 at tirerack.com, which is less then the RS package is on my 2LT and I get the HIDs, RS badges and few other things.

I think it is for the halos/hid on a SS. I think it looks a lot better that way but if the headlights don't matter to you and you're getting a SS I guess its not really worth it.

The RS package is very worth it regardless of the trim just for the HID/Halo's. There are quite a few threads around where people didn't want the RS package and got their dealer to install the HID/Halos and it cost them $600-$700 per side not including labor which ran another $200-$300.
