Just picked up my 2013 2LT/RS Camaro CRT today - the back-up camera is cool, no lines. All of the new changes are cool

I foresee a resurgence in the popularity of FM-modulated, remote controlled 6 and 12 disc CD changers mounted in the trunk, under the seat, or in the glove box if auto manufacturers are moving toward no factory CD player in the car.

I am telling each and every one of you, rumors of the demise of the compact disc is greatly exaggerated. I am among many if not most people in America who have a HUGE CD collection, one that would NEVER fit into an iPhone or other mobile device, and simply prefer the better sound quality of a good CD over the compression of an MP3.

Would not a factory installed 6 or 12 disc changer that can be controlled by the head unit be logical????? That was hugely popular in the early 1990s when head units still had cassette decks and people wanted CD changers too. I am quite sure it would take no room in the head unit to install the connector for a CD changer cable and program the software to operate one.

GM has got to be nuckin futs to even think about eliminating the availability of the CD player.... at least make it a no-cost option!!!!!!!!!!

FLAC or ALAC are options. You can put way more albums, in a lossless form, on an iPod than you can in a CD changer.

I have a feeling you are in the miniority, and that minority is only going to get smaller.

The time it would take for me to sit down and load all my discs into my iPod (as many that would fit in a 16 gig iPhone anyway, which I roughly calculated to be about 20% of my collection) I might as well take a week off from work and order delivery for lunch every day.

The convenience in the end is worth it. I agree that CDs sound a lot better than MP3s, but they are no where near as convenient. ALAC or FLAC is a good compromise, they are lossless and therefore the CD quality. But can be carried like mp3s.

As far as converting CDs goes, it would be a pain to sit down and rip them one at a time. There is a open source appliance called Vortexbox that I use. You put a CD (or movie) in it and it will autorip the media and spit it out when it's done. It tags and organizes everything and functions as a media server.

You can build your own or you can buy a pre-made box.

Anyone try this out and get it to work?

CDs are dead. You are saying exactly what record, 8-track, and cassette owners said when cd's came out "I have too many cassettes to burn to CD... And where are cassette players? And record players?

Do you carry every cd you own in your car? I think not.

I'm sure you could put your giant cd collection on 2 or even 3 iPods and take up a whole lot less room. You can only listen to one song at a time anyways.
