Salaries of GTR drivers

i read this the other day. does this surprise anyone? i feel like the combined household income is super low to afford a 100k car, but of course averages don't mean exactly 200k. still, even if 20% are millionaires, the other 80% have to have salaries quite a bit less than 200k to make 200k the average...

The base 2013 Nissan GT-R Premium model starts at $97,820, reflecting a $6,870 increase over the outgoing model. The 2013 Nissan GT-R Black Edition starts at $107,320, reflecting an $11,220 price hike.

Nissan says the average GT-R buyer has a household income of $200,000. Most GT-R buyers are married men ranging in age from 45-59.

Most of the people I've seen driving a GTR have been in their late 20's to mid 30's. 200k seems about right since the maintenance on those cars are pretty steep.

yeah but i am saying the opposite and that 200k seems LOW. think about it--it's households, so that's man's salary + wife's salary. throw in a couple of kids, a mortgage, and another car payment for the mrs., an additional $1,500 car payment per month seems really high for that salary range.

There's probably a good number of people making around 100,000 household, married or single, that have no kids and either a cheap mortgage or a paid-off house. I know a lot of married couples in the 30s-40s range that would fit that description pretty close (probably a little less income), but they both drive newer vehicles and just do not want kids period.

So if their only car payment is on the GTR, I can definitely see that.

Why does someone have to be earning at least twice as much as their car's worth to "afford" that car?

My Camaro's sticker price was right around $42k, and after TT&L was somewhere around $45k and I don't make $90k a year. In fact, at the time that I purchased the car, I was making under $60k a year.

It all depends on how you finance, how much you put down, and what you can afford monthly.

So, yeah, I imagine someone that makes $200k could pretty easily afford a GT-R. In fact, I bet someone making as "little" as $130k a year could afford a GT-R.

Remember this is household income of 200k, so that's 2 people @ 100k each essentially. A 100k salary and a 100k car is a whole, whole lot unless you live in an extremely cheap city or town.

does that really matter? it's still 100k, no matter if you put 80k down and finance 20k or finance all of 100k. if you have a 100k salary, it's going to take you many years to save 80k unless you inherited that money or had a really good investment.

all honesty here...i am 20, my bills, including my car payment are about about $1.2k a month. thats $14.4k a year. That's me alone. The girlfriend (been with 6 years), is about the same. We pay our bills seperate. Now, say I make 2,400 a month. that's $15k I could save a year. Plus hers! take a little out for vacations every year. If we were to save for 2 years and spend an extra $10k combined. Thats still 40k in 2 years!! It could happen if you don't live way above your needs. I think alot of people need a lesson in that now a days anyways. Taking out loans for things they will never be able to afford, and banks approving it. While some people can't get a simple loan and make it in a month because noone was paying theirs back in the first place!!!
