Muffler delete = better fuel economy

At least, it did on my car.

2011 2SS/RS A6.

Before my muffler delete, I would average between 15.5 - 17 MPG over the course of a tank.

Now, I'm averaging 17.25 - 19 MPG over the course of a tank.

Not a huge deal, but I found it interesting.

You're really not flowing much more exhaust, but you did drop about 35+ pounds. I imagine a tiny bit of pickup would be in order.

Did you do the work yourself or buy an aftermarket kit?

THIS is why I didn't count the first tank after doing the muffler delete.

And I had a muffler shop do the work. I originally cut my stock mufflers off and replaced them with Flowmaster AT's, but they weren't loud enough for me.

Damn it. Every time I say to myself "no more mods - this is the last one", someone comes up with something that I have to have! Does this void the warranty? How much does such a project cost? Essentially, can I just remove my muffler and that's it?

no it does not void your warranty and it usually cost around 85-200.
i got mine done for 150 and they are great! also used the stock tips!
sorry for feeding your addictions but its really a great mod!

Wow, so I get improved mileage ande better sound. And more power, right? How come they don't come like that out of the factory? Are there other benefits? Any tests that prove these improvements?

Oh, and would swapping them out with Flowmasters give the same results? I don't really need the loud sound.

Adding the flowmasters would add a little bit more power, at least enough to feel the difference. I've got a 1Lt and did the muffler delete (cut them myself) and put down tubes on it. So I don't have the tips out the rear bumper but it reverberates off the road to a nice rumble, tunnels are especially fun. I haven't noticed much of a difference in gas mileage but my lead foot doesn't help it either.

I'm not sure about the performance but i think you can get some with X-pipe installed. i love the sound and it was cheap!

If you look under your rear bumper you will see what looks like a box the the exhaust tips go into, its basically cutting those boxes out and run just a pipe. Makes the car really loud and after a few days you will get some spit and sputter and a little backfire (which i personally like) as you slow down. The only downside is If you do a lot of highway travel or 2k RPMs or more constantly, you get a little drone
