Fix it & sell it. Value just took a nose dive and you likely will never feel the same about the car :(.

Been there, done that.

It sure is interesting that all the really mechanically inclined people on this forum, those who tear down their motors themselves and swap out cams, just aren't part of this discussion.

So I have feel equally qualified to add my "pearls o' wisdom".

1. The usual "fix or scrap" metric these days in the auto insurance biz is if it is over half the value of resale they will pick scrap unless you make a real case about it.

2. These days, they don't usually sell you back your car, a whole sub-industry now buys these "wrecks" from the insurance companies and they then part them out and have quite the inventory of OEM parts. Speaking of which, DEMAND OEM parts for your car. Should be easy enough, the car model is new and not that many crashes per se.

3. I forgot what # 3 is, but I'm sure it was brilliant.

Good night all and good luck sir, you will get past this.

Soooooooo sorry about your Camaro. That front end shot makes your baby look so sad. Makes me think about the face of someone who has been beaten up. I'm really glad everyone is okay & hope it is all fixed up as good as new very soon.

But I need to know whether or not you all think my car is totaled or not.
People on the scene said it probably isn't totaled and the body shop looked at it and said it's repairable... But tomorrow my insurance is gonna look at it and see whether or not it is totaled/repairable.
Here are pics... Please tell me what you think. My driver airbag DID go off.
It's a 2011, 16,000 or so miles...
Looks totaled to me, just slip your adjuster a $50 bill.

Its not totalled I can assure you, an airbag is like a grand and the rest is about 5 or 6 grand to do. Youll be fine and driving it again in a few weeks. I am also glad no one got hurt. I really have no idea where someone would say an airbag is 12 grand. I have been in the auto body and parts business since i was 16 and have never seen an airbag over $2000. Now if it was a mini van with all the side curtains and stuff and all of them blew thats a different story.
heres a breakdown of the airbags cost
d/side $642.86
p/side $642.86
d/s side bag $357
p/side side bag $357
d/side head $357
p/s side head $357
clock spring $79
diagnostic unit $357
4 impact sensors @ $142 = $568
seat belts $119 each
buckles $57 each
total if all your airbags went off is less than $4100
But the big thing is only the d/s airbag went off so its definatly not a total.

most ins co's make the decision based on X% of the current value of the car

if repair is going to be more than X% of value it's totaled!!

I have herd X = 80 but could vary from Ins to Ins Co

That's Great! and Bad! At the same time! Value of car went way down hill in the books and on paper, but I'm sure it is still extremely valuable to you still! Which is fine by me!

Look at it this way....It gives you an excuse to keep your Camaro FOREVER!

Not a total. The one pic of the side door looks good, not out of line. Looks like the front tires are in line also.
