BP announces gasoline recall
BP announces gasoline recall This would be more for those local to the area since they believe the time frame was much later than the Camaro5 Fest. Although...

I bought a whole bunch of BP fuel at the fest and on the way back home. It all seemed to have just dissapeared maybe they will reimburse me.
On a side note, who is running regular in their camaro anyway.

We don't have BP in California. We have arco that is a part of BP but their gas is terrible. Its a bit cheaper but the gas really sucks. Is BP any good in other states?

"According to BP, some kind of fault befell regular unleaded gasoline from its refinery in Whiting, Indiana that shopped between August 13-August 17,2012."
One more reason to use E10. "Though some repairs have cost a few hundred dollars, a few car owners said in the story that their repair bills have topped nearly $1,200." $1200 is a king screw job. All that needs to be done is to have the tank drained and lines cleared out. A 3-hour job at best. Wow.

Thanks for the heads up. I never use them either due to the spill and a few other reasons.
But I'll let others know.

None of the bad gas made it out of the nw Indiana area
I know quite a few people dealing with this right now, a few in brand new vehicles Ryan

Does not matter
It really doesn't matter. If they cannot maintain the quality of their lower grade products the possibility exist that they cannot maintain the quality of any of their products. That is why I am not taking a chance (with premium) any longer and will start to use shell 100 % of the time. When was the last time that you heard of a screw up like this from a refiner ? My first. Stations yes . Wrong tank drop, water in the tank yea that happened in our little old town. I just wont take the chance.

I am working on construction at the BP Whiting refinery as QA/QC over several aspects of new construction. This bad gas (regular only) is rarely if ever heard of coming out of a refinery. They have several QC points that would normally prevent the problem.
The gas contained some polymers that should have been removed in the refining process but wasn't. It also was not detected by their lab technicians, and that is where the blame would most likely fall. I still use BP gas. For all of the people that avoid BP stations to avoid their gas, guess what. If you bought Shell or Chevron in NW Indiana or Chicagoland, you probably got BP gas. They all get their gas here more likely than not.

Why
Why haven't we heard of any reports of Chevron or Shell users having these problems ? I will still steer clear . Better safe than sorry .

Bad gas does happen. Somestimes they don't recall. This just happened to make the press and spread. In 2002, Shell admitted their additive may mess up some cars. But that was only after a law suit. They've since fixed this. http://www.cbc.ca/news/story/2002/05...it_020528.html I've learned not to immediately react to news "title hype"and generalize. It did take practice but my mindset is different now. I don't live in Indiana so I'll but BP without fear. While BP's source may be the same as other's that doesn't mean others are affected. I'm going to see who gets from what source. |
