No 4 door and not that concept that is posted.

I say leave the Chevelle where it belongs, in the past where they built it right.

A new Monte Carlo makes more sense to me than a Chevelle, especially with the new SS sedan coming.

The problem with a Chevelle is that it can't be anything other than a muscle car, with its styling derived from the cars from the 60's and 70's. If GM were to do anything else, then all the enthusiasts would be up in arms that GM screwed it up and that its not a real Chevelle (see 2004-2006 GTO for example). There just isn't enough mainstream appeal for that kind of thing to be successful. Plus it would be competing with the Camaro and the upcoming SS which probably have shaky enough business plans as is with the ramp up of CAFE & high gas prices.

Now, a Monte Carlo doesn't fix all that but it would at least have more freedom of design and as a 'personal luxury coupe' (instead of 'muscle car') it could also have a broader appeal. Plus, for those (like the OP) that are looking for a big coupe, the Monte fits that role better than a Chevelle anyway since they've more or less straddled the line between midsize & large cars (Chevelles were midsize). Other things in the favour of a Monte would be the fact that the name plate is still fairly fresh in the public consciousness, so GM wouldn't need to do as much work to get the name out there , and it would be very easy to make a Buick Riviera or Grand National.

Plus, with the few V8s GM is building now, what would they power the Chevelle with? Would they have the same engines as the Camaro but in a bigger, heavier car or would they put the same engine as the Vette and piss the Vette guys off?

I wish it would happen, but a 2 door big sporty car is a really tough sell.

I'd only buy one if they did it how dodge did the Challenger, where it's basically a direct rip off. And only of a '70 model

Pretty much how I feel. Take the classic looks with some slight modernization.

As much as I would love to see a re-boot of my first love, I just don't see it happening. They're hooking us older generation types in with the Camaro and it's working well for GM. A rear wheel drive, 2-door Malibu with a SuperSport model thrown in, just might work if marketed right, but like I said, not likely to happen.

Pic on left is me the day after I returned from Vietnam (August 1970) after car was in storage for a year. I ordered it in March 1966 while still in high school, with 5 options: 396CI/360HP; 4-speed, posi-traction, 4:10 gears, and AM radio; total came in just under $3000.00

It would be interesting to see how GM would build a new Chevelle though. Would it have the same engines as the Camaro or Vette? Since the Camaro is so much bigger now, would the Chevelle be even bigger or similar sized? Would they make it a retro design or a modern design?

But, TBH, I don't want it back. They'll probably screw it up like they did with the GTO.

Leave it be.
I agree. People were up in arms about the new GTO bc it looked nothing like a GTO.

Don't the camaro and vette already share the ls3

Well ford is ditching retro for the 2015 mustang, and I am guessing others will follow suit. Retro was cool in 2005, I'm ready for some fresh designs

Yeah the Vette and Camaro share the LS3 but the Vette has the LS7 and LS9.

I think it would be hard to revive a classic car with a completely modern design. I think it should have a retro based design for the first generation.

Nope. Back in the heyday of the Chevelle, "Malibu" was a trim level, not a car model. It gets confusing because Chevrolet keeps taking old trim-level names and making them model names - "Malibu", "Silverado", etc...

BTW, the only way it would look good is if they based the design on the '66-'67 model year.

While I love the 66-67 chevelle, IMO the 70 chevelle is one of the most beautiful cars ever built. When someone says muscle car, a red 70 chevelle with a black vinyl roof and black stripes is e first car that comes to mind.

And the 454 ls6 is just bad ass hahaha
