Went to the track

So I took the ZL out to the drag strip a couple weekends ago on their Saturday night run what ya brung thing. I am no Don Garlits but I can drive okay. I made about 7 passes and all were pretty consistant but my best time was a 13.20. Stock tires with whatever pressure they come with. Car is a 6 speed with 1600 miles. It was about 105 degrees outside and about 30-40 percent humidity. Track seemed slippery to me. I made all my runs in mode 5 using the launch control. Which, BTW is frickin cool!

There was about 5 other SS camoros there, some clearly had some mods
but I had better times than any of them. I raced one of them heads up and he got me for about 100 ft but then I pretty much drove away from him.

My thoughts are are that this car/motor is severely affected by adverse air temps. I will take the car back out once it cools down and see if it does any better, before I do any type of mods.

Not as fast as I hoped but still loads of fun.

oaky Go for it. I know I'm about to get Ejumacated!

That would help but with the Az temp and DA you can't expect great times out of the ZL-1.

100+ degrees isn't gonna help anyone lol

Add in 500+ hp/tq and a slippery track and we get embarrassed

I know I would've too

I will be taking my ZL1 to Maple Grove Raceway on the 31st for it's first track time, if the weather permits. If I don't run 12.50 or better I will be pissed!

I've seen a few AZ based ZL1's at the track (Speedworld). It's going to take some seat time, and probably a tire, to really get these cars down the track.

Speedworld has a $10 race night on Saturday (8/25).....maybe we will see you out there.

Just wait til the winter to take out to the track, the good thing about AZ winter and TX winter, is that we get summer temps from some of the nothern states. =)

So wait for winter, and when it's about 70 degrees take it out again.

I don't think you can turn a good time until you get your rear tire pressure down around 20 psi.

There stock SS's running faster than that on stock tires. And dont blame the heat. I had 12.5 runs all day in 100+ temps and only dropped a 1/10th- 2/10ths due to heat with only a cai and catback on stock p-zeros.

How much of a factor is altitude of where you are vs where he is?
