Fog Light HID's for ZL1
Has anyone put 55Watt HID's in the lower fog light of the ZL1 front? Any danger of too much heat and the bezel melting? Was thinking of getting an H11 3000K 55 Watt kit.

55w HIDs will melt the housing. Heck you risk melting the housing with 25w HIDs

I had 55w HIDs I'm my first gen CTS-V. Good god they were bright! The V had a rather large fog light housing though.

Well HID's are only generally in 35 and 55 and I am pretty sure 35 is no problem as these give off very little heat. Was hoping someone actually tried 55 and 35 watt and could comment.

Yeah well that looks like a pic of a DRL housing and not the bottom fog light projector. May have to experiment myself as the fog light I think is glass not cheap plastic like the DRL's. No reason it cannot take a 35 watt HID IMO

The bottom fog light on the ZL1 is the same housing as the DRLs on the Camaro.
If you think 35w will work then I say go for it. I'm just warning you, 35w has melted some people's housing. |

Yes but I have a ZL1 front and so maybe that is why people are confused. I am taking about the small ZL1 fog light and NOT the DRL. I think the small fog light should take a 35 watt HID.

I would just run it for a wile and see how hot it gets. it is most likly a differnt material. I just bought some heon OEM color matched bulbs as I did not want to mess with hid's in the fogs.

The fog light housing (not the DRL, but the smaller one on top) is made of the same plastic as the camaro DRL housing. So if the DRL housing can't handle 35w I don't think the smaller housing will either. My .02

the smaller one is on the bottom (not top) and is supposed to be the fog light..the larger one on top is the DRL.
But it may not work...may try it though.. |

the lenses may be different material though at that woud be the key. the fog has a projector style lens where the running light just has a normal lense. I agree it is a risk though that is why I just did color matched bulb not worth the risk to me.
