Interest Rates

Just out of curiosity what rates people are getting. I know a lot is on credit, I got mine for 3.99 for 66 months and checking to see if that is pretty good?

my LS is financed 4.19% for 72. Which I hear is pretty good for a 72 month loan.

I got mine a 2011 about 1 year ago for 2.9% for 72 months. I just paid it off last month so I saved a shit load of money in interest for paying it off early. I just got 0% for 60 months on my wifes Escalade. I figure what the hell why not use there money at 0%. They ask me if I was going to put any money down and I laughed because again 0% I will use there money and can do some other things with my money to make money.. I own a used car lot and can buy alot of $8000 cars and sell them and make a bunch of money..

I am at 1.99 for 60. Not going to pay one dollar ahead. That's damn near free money!

I bought used w/ 15K miles and saved about 10 grand off the new price.

Yes , good credit. Had option to go with 1.9% / 60 months but plan on paying early. With 72 month i have lower minumin if i have a bad month.

Question

The dealer is saying he can probably get 3% financing for me. I see where PenFed has 1.49%.

I've only ever just financed through the dealership, so I don't quite know how it works if I would get approved by PenFed or someone else outside of the dealership. Can someone please explain that process to me in layman's terms?

I think PenFed just cuts you a check and you pay the dealership for the car (or whichever bank gave you the loan through the dealership). Then you just make your payments to PenFed.

Pretty much how it works. You prequalify up to a maximun amount , lender cuts you a blank check , you fill it out at dealers up to amount you are approved for , you make payment to lender at their rate. Most of the time dealer will come up with a better rate. If you qualify to go in with a good rate , chances are you qualify for one of the dealers preffered rates.
