Canadian Camaro Expensive

I priced out two exact cars online. One at gm.com and one at gm.ca

The Canadian car is about $4,000 USD more than it is in the US.

God Save the Queen.

(someone please run the numbers and tell me I am wrong)

I'm laughing at the last line in the post, not the rest.

The God save the queen line.

You need to factor in the exchange...

A $40k camaro should be at least $46k in Canada considering a 1.15 exchange rate.

I'm no expert but I would say since its an American company GM has to pay your Government export fees to sell it in Canada even though it actually never leaves Canada.
Anybody confirm?

2SS is about $3000USD more expensive in Canada than it is in the States. Maybe it's to cover the cost of having to print a "u" in "colour" in all of their materials?

The C$ has appreciated by 20% since the prices were initially set. When GM Canada had first published the prices, we studied them on this site and in some cases, the cars were actually cheaper by buying them here.

I suspect that GM will revisit their pricing if the dollar remains high. The negative side of things are that the cost to build a Camaro in Canada goes up so they may have to raise the US price in order to keep their profit margin on the car.

If you think the price difference is bad on a Camaro, go price out a loaded Z06....

I woulda thought it woulda been the other way around and the export fee's would be on the ones getting sent to the states?

If I for example paid for something that could be given to me "online" or that I didn't need shipped to me over the border.. I wouldn't be paying those fee's... UNLESS I needed it to be physically shipped out... then I'd be paying international shipping... SOOoo.... Unless the vehicles are crossing the border... regardless of the location of the owner.... I don't think the fee's would factor in. I'm no expert either thoguh so *shrug*

That said, I also did mine on both sites AND I did an exchange on the currency and mine turned out to be 5,400 more expensive on the Canadian site than the American site...(AFTER currency exchange) the only difference I could find at first glance was that the Canadian site was adding a destination charge (1400) and the American site charge was a little over 500 CAD cheaper for that same charge. Which still leaves 3.5 thousand dollars CAD extra in cost.

The total of my car with it's options turned out to be 47,015 CAD (MSRP) this is equal to 42,843 USD (According to the converter I'm using) That was for a Black 2SS with RS package, ground effects, painted engine cover.

I always thought it was because of different regulations that the cars had to meet?

And in case anyone doesn't know, I think the OP was referring to our alternate national anthem.. God Save the Queen (which is also the anthem of the Commonwealth).

Uhmm whattt??? I priced out the Camaro on gm.com and it worked out to a little over $37,000.00 US. Then I went to the dealer in BC a couple days later and ordered mine for $44,400.00 Canadian ... which when you multiply the the price of the US website by the currency exchange rates (say 1.2), works out to about the same.

I think their identicley priced.

No. $44,400 x .91 = $40,404 which is over 3 grand more (USD).

On the Us Website

2ss starting at $34,225 US dollars which converts to $37,603 Canadian Dollars (at todays rates)

On the Canadian website

2ss starting at $40,995

A difference of $3,392 more in Canada in real dollars.

Put on some accesories and it gets even larger in the difference, it came to about 4 Grand.

I think you should X it by the US $ (1.10) not the CDN $ (.91)

When the prices came out it was $1.20 US Approx. It was cheaper to buy CDN than US back then. Now nearly at par it would be cheaper in the USA. We have to stop comparing $ among us. If we keep buying imports....BLABLABLA... Like the Americans always say `Buy Americian` and for us `Buy Canadian` My Opinion
