Yea! I spent so much on this build that 20s just fly out the tailpipes during burnouts!
Shot some video doing the tune today. I'll get it uploaded in a couple days. Right now I'm going to put some miles on my car! ![]() I am extremely impressed by the power this thing makes and it was over 100 degrees here today while we were messing with the tune! |

Thanks to Damon for tuning yesterday. He had some challenges with the version of HP Tuners reading all the ZL1 parameters needed but the updated version read them fine and some formula calculations got us around as well.
Here's a short video of our first attempt getting on it on a freeway onramp with a couple S curves. I must say, I am extremely pleased with the way this thing pulls at EVERY RPM from 2k on up. And our ambient temperature here in AZ while tuning yesterday was well over 100*. I have to keep the temp in perspective because the power of this car was amazing and temps like that kill power in everything, supercharged or not. I can only imagine what this thing is going to feel like in cooler weather! The exhaust is obnoxiously loud around town. I have to keep the mild-to-wild switch set to stock, then shift before 4k or else it sounds like an open pipe Sprint Cup car! It WILL draw attention! ![]()

Damon sounded impressed so that is telling me a lot. Well over 100* and pulling like that is a good sign of the potential there.

We were seeing peak boost of 14psi. That's with a 9.1 lower and 2.55 upper. Ambient air was around 100* to 110* depending on where we were and IAT2 would rise to the 150s when getting into it up to the triple digit speeds then it would cool right away when getting out of the power.
It transitions from vacuum to boost right away when stepping into it. Engine temps stayed down around 190* unless I was in city traffic then it would climb to 200* but I never saw it up to 210* unless I shut the car off hot. In that situation it would be warm when starting and cool right down quickly. |

Oh ok thats what's up! I'll have to get an Rx chiller or
Something to prevent it from gettin too hot and maybe a 160 degree thermostat?

Yea, Everybody seems to run the 160* T-stat and we still run above 160. I'm sure that one could be debated like crazy because above 160 you'll be full open and circulating all the time not ever giving coolant time to sit still in the radiator.
I considered leaving my stock thermostat but in the end changed it because I could not find ONE high HP build example that kept the stock. Some more data from our weekend of tuning: DA was 4713’ Cruising IAT2’s were 22* above ambient, WOT through the gears was 154* that’s only a 34* delta!!! Thursday we are going to VE tune the car to get AFR perfect during fast throttle transitions. This was a mild tune 11.6:1 AFR and 17* of timing… Now that Damon knows how the car responds it’s time to lean her out a little and add some more timing especially in the mid-range. When the weather cools and DA gets below 1000’ expect 15psi and 20* of timing up top on 91 octane Last edited by 1st Gen Forever; 09-05-2012 at 10:31 PM. |

I run 160's and see temps of 173 in the ZL1 and 182 in the CTS-V. Both are very stable and never go up more than about 5*.
