It's about how much they can sell based on what is popular out there and then we are asked to what should be placed in the cars. I'm not quite sure if that makes sense to folks, but it's clear in my head. :(
It sounds to me that you mean they are trying to appeal to a broad audience so the car has potential larger customer interest. I agree with you for the most part and as enthusiasts we tend to have wants in the car that really isn't a priority or is maybe a bit over the top, but that doesn't mean the car has to look similar to another model in the lineup.

The Camaro for instance is very unique, and Chevy took a chance with bold styling and it paid off big time. Sure, there are some who will claim it is too cartoony or something, but whatever to that. Those types are usually just a different type of car breed altogether. For the large part, the Camaro is just plain good looking.

These cars are meant to be noticed, not look like a sporty two door version of a family car that just happens to be fast.

The issue I have is the Camaro and Mustang are classic cars that have iconic styles. They are easily recognizable. Changing that to fit a broader market would change the core of the car. For mass market appeal, they have Malibu, Cruze, Edge, Flex etc. The Camaro and Mustang should be kept American even if that slightly limits the market appeal.

I have to say I will prob buy the new mustang in the most potent form when it comes out. I don't plan on selling my gxp or ss so it will be an addition and not a replacement. Ford is just building nicer cars right now. Look at f150 vs silverado.

Have you guys ever read those from concept to production books that they sometimes release right after a concept vehicle hits production such as the Chevrolet SSR and Camaro? They are so interesting to see how the concepts came about, the process and specifically focuses on the designers and what it is that is expected for them to create and whom they are getting the inspirations from and who they are aiming it against.

True they should also maintan that muscle car Bull Mastive, BAD A#$# look as well. It would be great for these manufacturers to improve the handling and power delivery but maintain the true character meant to come from within and maintain heritage. Truely even European car owners literally droll over the muscle car looks and exhaust sound. I once had a guy with a 2011 M3 pull up next to my past L99 and droolled over it like he was pushing a skateboard and looking at an ENZO, he had total respect for my Camaro SS like if to say, "I have an M3 but man that's a Camaro baby woo hoo, rev it up I want to hear it , let me hear it", he kept saying.

Come on, that shape is the blue print for the Pony Car and the modern Camaro and Challenger. The Camaro has been out selling Mustang and the Challenger has been doing really well lately also.

Sorry, I just prefer the fastback over the coupe and I think ford does too, hence why the s197 mustangs have such an uncanny resemblance to the fastbacks and not the coupes.

I dont think North American cars need a more Euro look, what they need is a more euro approach to quality and evolution. By and large I'd say North American cars look great, it's the ownership experience that has often turned sour.

I'm kinda hoping the new stangs borrow some look from the GR1 Concept from 05-07.

I really dig the rear end.

God knows the new stang needs wider rear tires!
