Loose load on a truck hit me...

As the title states, a truck carrying gravel lost the tarp ontop containing the load within and a finger nail sized rock flew out and hit my windshield; the thing is now cracked and in needing of being replaced :(

Anyone on here ever replace the windshields on their car yet?

I do not look forward to this. I hate the thought of strangers having to remove the whole window, rear view mirror, remote starter from it and then putting it all back in...I already sense a mess up on their part....

I know I am being very cynical...but I have had some bad experiences with car work in the past haha.

Call Safelite. From my experiences they do great work. Depending on your insurance it might not even cost you a dime.

Ahhh we don't have that up here in Canada. I have called my insurance provider though and it will cost me 200-300$ due to my deductible...such a pretty penny lost.

Did you get the plate number or company phone number? Usually you can call the company and they should replace the windshield due to their negligence.

I tried, but I had to back out pretty quickly the guy had pebbles leaking pretty heavy, to top it off my hood has a few nice little chips too now...it has been one hell of a shitty Monday...

I tried to get some details but the guy turned off before I could get it, and it seemed to be hidden behind more tarp go figure...

Haha its timeless advice! Unfortunetly this guy cut in front of me while changing lanes a bit too fast and intensely - this is basically what broke the security on his load!

I am pretty damn pissed though, went outside and counted - the hood has 8 rock chips that are huge....

Watching the tech replace your windsheild is very painful to watch indeed! I almost fainted when he started goin at it with a saws-all looking device!

Be sure to tell them in advance if you have HUD or not, although they will probably ask you first.

Yaaaa....I had a crack fixed 5 months ago and it was painful to watch them drill it....I most definetly am going to have to find a very trust able tech...I don't want just any hack going at my window...

How do you know if you have HUD? I bought the car second hand 5 months ago and never figured out if I have it or not.

HUD= Head up display. Look on your dash on the driver's side close to the edge of the windshield, if you see a little window that projects images on your windshield, (speed, tach, etc.) then you have HUD. If not, you don't.... As seen in this thread:

If you have a 2011 2LT or 2SS, you have HUD. Came standard.

Yea, I shelled out $500 towards the purchase of a NEW OEM windshield. (That was my deductible.) Safelite has a contract with my local Dealer for all windshield replacements. I politely asked the techs if I could watch them replace it. They obliged and were extrememly gentile for my sake. I tipped them well and we were both pleased (They of coarse more than me :-( but...)

I had my 2SS's windshield replaced when it was cracked by a stone on the highway.

If you put in a lot of highway miles, this will happen. I have never owned a car that didn't require at least one windshield replacement.

Just make sure you ger a Pilkington windshield, not some lesser knock-off.

Since they all cost more than your deductable, insist on the original. It lists for over $600 for the non-HUD version, I think.

BTW, I didn't watch. When the saw noise started, I left the building and went for a long walk. Came back after an hour and there was my car in the lot, good as new.

That sucks. There is another reason I am glad to have a video camera in my car.
