Well, there you go. The attributes on a vehicle that impress you aren't included in the set of options that come along with the up-level to an SS model (with your choice trim) and can be found on other models. So, of course the added performance of the L99 or LS3 over the LLT (LFX now) isn't really going to sway you. Nothing wrong with that.

Was the SS you test drove a stick? The SS auto I test drove seemed lazy at anything less than full throttle.

Before I bought my SS LS3, manual trans SS's were extremely hard to find (I ended up having to have the one I bought transported in from another state), so I drove the 2012 V6 RS (manual) and the 2012 SS L99 (auto). Honestly, to me those two cars seemed pretty similar in normal and semi-spirited driving. (I know that at full throttle, the L99 would commence to kicking arse.) But if it were just between the V6 RS manual and the SS automatic, the choice to go with the SS would have been harder.

I'm definitely a manual-trans kind of guy, so that may have tainted my opinion significantly.

Comparing v6 to the v8 is like comparing the 327 to the 396. The 327 was not as fast but was fast enough to have fun with.

A little added "boost" will solve any of those kind of problems....!

Need to get it up to around 600 HP (haha).

I had a modded 2010 2LTRS auto, about 340 net hp. Great car. Test drove the SS auto and felt the same in the short drive I did, get on it and you feel the torque, but as others have said not the greatest . Test drove the M6 and thats what I bought. What you notice is the better handling, brakes, more taught feeling and if you dont notice the bottom end torque you werent trying. Not to mention leave it in higher gear and it moves out. The v6 wont do that unless the trans kicks down into a lower gear or two.

I still haven't purchased a Camaro yet, but I had a similar reaction when I first drove an L99. I was so hyped up that I guess I was expecting a rocket, and when I stepped on the gas,...... well, I was underwhelmed and was left feeling a bit used. I took it back to the dealership and left thinking that I'd never own a Camaro, as much as I loved the new body style. A few weeks later, I was at another dealership and drove an LS3.....WHOA-NELLY!!!!!!! Had the timing been right for my financial situation, I would have bought it on the spot. I'm still a few months out from pulling the trigger and I'm actually thinking I'll go for a ZL1 now, after seeing and sitting in one....not sure they'll actually allow a test drive of that beast unless I walk in with cash in hand.)

Having owned a '12 LT/RS and now a '12 1SS, I can tell you what the problem is. Both of these cars are deceptively fast. Once you get used to the power of the V6, you might not realize just how fast the V8 is.

That's not to say the V6 isn't very quick for what it is...that's a big reason why I bought mine. I was amazed at the amount of power they were able to get out of it. That said, I know I can definitely tell the difference between my V6 and V8.

Even if you can't feel it, if you put them both on the same stretch of road and hit the gas, I guarantee you can SEE the difference.

Both are very nice cars. But everyone has their own requirements for their own taste. For me, power was at the top of the list. The leather, etc. really didn't matter. That's why I went for the 1SS. As someone else said, it doesn't sound like you really care for the extras you get with the SS. If you're not going to use the engine or the Brembo brakes and don't really want to get too crazy now and then, the V6 is perfect. It provides plenty of punch at a great price.

Basically if you:

1. Don't go to the track
2. Need the extra MPG
3. Are on a budget that doesn't alot for an SS
4. Are looking at a non-RS V6 to save on the cost of tires
5. Will be using it primarily for daily duties and never really see open spaces of road
6. Don't feel the V8 sound is worth the entry price
7. Aren't worried about hearing the "Is it a V8?" question thousands of times
8. Aren't out to impress others
9. Aren't going to be making any "spirited takeoffs" when a Mustang GT or Challenger R/T comes along
10. Want the looks primarily and hate buying premium gas

Then the V6 is absolutely perfect.

It is a great car. And it sounds like it's exactly what you're looking for. And, as someone else said, there is NOTHING wrong with that at all.

Other side of that coin.

The "real enthusiast" that buys a "muscle car" doesn't "[drive regular]".

Mostly nailed it for me...
I drove both. Since I was going for the looks/options, the V8 didn't seem worth the extra. The 2LT/RS is plenty for me.
