This attitude right here is what gets you in trouble. While none of us know the complete situation, I can guarantee you, an attitude like this buys you NO favors from anyone.

A higher standard of living? On minimum wage? I think you need an ego check.

I am not for or against cops, but this is totally uncalled for. Yes there are good and some bad cops, but overall I'd bet most are good and honest.

and maybe I’m a skeptic, but I'd bet there is a whole lot more to this story.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you're garnering attention from the police because of the way you drive your car and not because you're 25 and driving a Camaro. It sounds like they're paying attention to you because you're 25 and you're driving like an a-hole.

I've owned f-bodies since I was a teenager and you know the only times I got harassed by the cops? When I was driving like an idiot.

In a city like Detroit, they'd be way too busy with a whole lot of much more important crap to even bother.
I lived in suburban Detroit all through the '90s and remember mayor Coleman Young and Chief of police Hart as two of the most corrupt and biggest criminals that city has ever known. While I agree the OP likely brings a lot of this on himself, you may have missed this part of the story:

If the police officers in question actually acted in the manner the OP described, then the name fits.

The OP's post reeks of a spoiled brat that got his peepee spanked for driving like an asshat. Theres definitely more to this story than hes letting on. IMO he exhibited irresponsible conduct and deserved to have the car towed. Practicing 'defensive driving skills', yeah....

While I agree that there seems to be some missing equations from your story, I still don't think the police are acting on the up and up. Sounds more like personal attacks/harassment than anything else. They can't tow your car from someone accusing you of doing something. They need to actually witness it themselves. Also, if you were on private property "practicing" (sorry OP but this sounds like BS too) they can't do anything unless the owner of that property asks them too.

What was their probable cause for searching you vehicle? Did you open the trunk for them or did they open it or tell you to open it? Remember, they need a search warrant to make you unlock and open anything. Unless the small % of the company you own is DRUG MULES INC.

This is true. (I work for an attorney)

Fail.

No warrant needed to inventory the car prior to having it towed.

Fail again. The statute regarding this kids idiotic driving has been posted. Please read prior to lending bad legal advice.

Who made you a judge to render someone's advice as bad? It's only bad if using that advice doesn't work out. Free advice is free advice. It's up to the receiver to consider and accept or reject. Even a lawyer only "advises" a client. And you usually pay for that.

From what I read there's a couple of questions that need to be answered. We're only getting a piece of the story, and how much of that is true? Who knows?

Assuming it's true for a sec, did the police actually witness the reckless driving? Don't know about Michigan laws, but traffic laws normally don't allow police to act on their own to that extent unless they witness the event or have some solid evidence that a statute has been violated. So in this case, I'm guessing they witnessed the OP doing something idiotic. For their sake I hope so. Without evidence, that would be a low-hanging fruit for even the sloppiest defense lawyer and could be construed as harrassment. Because if that were the case, the police could pull you over for no reason and accuse you of something with no evidence and have your car towed. Same effect.

If there is video camera record on the property and they can determine it is the OP, well, pay your fine and go home.

Here in SC, private parking lots sometimes have a sign posted to the effect "This property is patrolled by local police" or something like that. This means the owner has likely already given permission for police to enforce any statute within the property.

Personally? I think the OP has given the authorities reason to be watched like a hawk. Just sayin'.

What exactly were you "practicing" is where I'm at a loss?

When we were kids we didn't have TC, but when we thought we needed "practice" we would drive around and never stay in one spot too long, also avoid areas enforced by our hometown police, because they knew us. That area you speak of, you should probably avoid it all together for your hot rodding needs.

That was a bonehead move on your part, the police had the right to ticket and tow your car, they are allowed to drive onto that property same as you. Unless you can stand up in court and say it's your parking lot, or it's your buddy's then forget that private property BS.

Also to consider, if you are familiar with costs to maintain a parking lot, some owners frown on things like this.

If you are going to lawyer up. Delete those pics. If you were smart you would have spun your tires a couple of times then left.
I do think you have some maturing to do. Get that chip off your shoulder, try to get the charge reduced, pay your fine and try to keep clean around the popo. And especially don't drive fast in your neighborhood. That is not going to endear you to anyone.
