Front speaker suggestions?
First off I'm going to note that I am not an Audiophile by any means. I don't have to have the best products on the market. I'm just looking for a good OEM replacement setup that won't break the bank.
I have a 2SS and my right front lower speaker sounds slightly blown depending on the song. I could probably get it replaced under warranty but if I can find some decent speakers for around $100-$150 or so then I might go ahead and upgrade. I'm guessing it would be best to go with some component style vs just replacing the lower speaker. I did upgrade my factory amp to a small JL Audio xd400 using ********'s wiring harness. Can anyone suggest a decent speaker for me to look at? Do I have to buy special adapters for the front lower speakers? I remember seeing ******** selling something for it but also remembering that the cost of shipping was more than the part. By chance, does anyone know of a link to a DIY on how to remove the door panels and replace the speakers?

Here's the DIY you were looking for:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=130857 Also, what amp do you have? How many channels? I was told by crutchfield those or the comparable infinity kappa's were very good speakers. |

If you buy the speakers from Crutchfield it says that it comes with a speaker adapter. I wonder if it's any good? I like the ******** adapters but the shipping is a killer.

I got some Rockford Fosgate 6" components because they had integrated crossovers so nothing additional to mount. Very easy install, I got the adapter mounts as well as the wiring adapters from ********. Just make sure you paint/seal them because the mdf will absorb moisture in the doors and turn to mush over time.

Those Polks should sound pretty good. I have Polk 6x9s in the rear deck and they sound as good as one could expect for a 6x9.
After upgrading the front speakers and adding an amp, it's only a matter of time before you will want more in the rear deck, if you like music from the back. Some people don't. I would suggest if you want more later to go with a sub first. It's easier to install than 6x9s and fills in a lot of what is missing with the front speakers. Replacing the rear speakers is a pain.

Do you think a 5 1/4 is good enough or should I go 6 1/2 speaker? That's assuming a 6 1/2 will even fit.

They fit, that's what I have, and I wouldn't go smaller.

Just ordered a set of these. Should be here by the weekend.
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_206DS62...-2.html?tp=106 I could've bought them cheaper other places but Crutchfied includes a mounting bracket and a wiring plug to fit the OEM plug. If you factor in ********s mounting stuff these are the same price.

Definitely stay with a 6 1/2" component set. Better the quality better the sound. As far as install goes, you can either hack/modify the original spkr/mount up to mount the new speaker, buy adapters from Scosche, or build your own from MDF, plywood, or plastic but they are pretty thick as it is needed to clear the window. Same adapters in alot of NEW GM cars & trucks. About $20/pr if you buy them.
JBL MS62C for about $300 retail are hard to beat for the price. Hertz HSK165 are even better but almost twice the price but all well worth it when you hear them. Anything bigger than a 25mm tweeter in the stock sail panel will require more modification though.

Thanks.....looks like you can get those JBL for about $175 in a lot of places. They are probably overkill for me but seems like a good price. I just have a small 40w JL amp and stock head unit and no subs.
The $120 for the KICKER with all the brackets and plugs will probably do me just fine. After all I'm good with the stock speakers if they wouldn't have blown. I probably could get the speakers replaced under warranty but I figured I might as well go aftermarket. Worst case is I don't like them.....Crutchfield will take them back.
