Installed Axleback, Want to remove resonator on L99, how?
How should I go on about removing the central resonator on my L99? I have a Borla S Type Axleback installed and I am ordering a Magnaflow True-X (X-Pipe). I'll need extra piping correct? Is the resonator cut out? Or removed from behind the cats?
UPDATE: I went to 2 exhaust places and they both said they'll need about $300+ dollars to do it (2 and a half hours + the price for the pipes) now I don't understand why that's the case, I asked them to lift the car and they did so I can explain what has to be done. They told me they need to remove the resonator, cut the middle part out, weld the new x-pipe with their pipes, and re-install it along with the axleback. I think I'll just go somewhere else or will probably ask them to replace my resonator with pipes, period (no x-pipe) what do you guys think?

I did this mod also, we cut out the big ole ugly resonater right where the tubing goes in the front and comes out the back of it, then welded the xpipe to where the front of the resonater was attached to the tubing then ran extensions from the back of the xpipe to the rest of the rear tubing. I would take a pic but it is dark out now.Good luck

Get some Stainless pipe and have a muffler shop cut out the chamber of horrors, weld the X up front and pipe behind it.

Decent muffler/exhaust shop should have no trouble doing it for you.
Make sure to shop around for prices. I needed a small section of exhaust switched out and one local exhaust shop wanted $180 (their minimum charge) to do it. So I went to an tranmision/exhaust shop near where I work and they did it for $40. |

+1 Some people want huge mininum charges. Others places will take cash on the side. |

I am having this same exact thing done Saturday. I am running LT headers and GMPP axel back. I also ordered the Magna Flow X pipe.

I also recommend the magnaflow true x pipe but there are also a few resonator replacement X pipes that have all the piping you need built into the X pipe. Just cut the resonator out and clamp the X pipe in.

I paid $40 to have my x-pipe welded in with the resonator moved as well as welding on my pype's bomb axle back shortly after buying my car... I have since ditched that setup for a full Doug Thorley exhaust, headers to tips... but just ordered Dynomax Race Bullets to replace the DT mufflers, which I find to be too quite(2-chamber) and a little raspy...

You may lose some torque with no x or h

Go some where else, 4 cuts, 6 weldsand aboue 3 feet of tubing and 30 minutes cost me 100 bucks..Good enough for me.Oh, and the entire system DOES NOT have to come off to do it, as it looked like they were saying in what you posted..
and re-install it along with the axleback. |
