with my altima, it slides into the FOB. there is also a port at the bottom of the dash that you can stick the FOB into to start the car if the battery in the FOB is completely dead.

it's pretty neat technology. the car can tell within inches of where the FOB is. if I'm sitting in the car with the FOB in my pocket I can start the car. but if I just so much as hold it outside the window the car will not start. likewise, I can leave the fob anywhere in the car, lock the doors, and try to close them. but as soon as I close the door all 4 unlock. even the trunk works that way. close it with the fob in there and it opens up.

Push button start would be cool, heck even changing the angle of the key would be good. I keep hitting it with my knee. And better protection around the slot would be good, too many scratches already.

My G8 had the flip key like the Camaro does and I thought that was freakin cool. Then I got my charger and it has keyless entry and push start and that's even better. I put my key in my pocket and never take it out, I hate digging around for my keys.

My key does have a 'second key' way to open the door but I have no idea how I'd start the car. The push button part for ignition doesn't pull to reveal a key hole like I've seen in other cars.

I thought ALL Mustangs required push start!

But no, not on the Camaro. Not a fan.

I'd much rather have a key. Those buttons are over-engineering what should be a simple system. Manufacturers routinely add unnecessary features at great expense to the customers they claim to help who never asked for these additions. To this day, the average young car-buyer wants a $15k—$300/mo payment after TTL—new car. It is very possible to add a lot more cars to this category by removing things we didn't ask manufacturers to include.

If we keep putting pressure on manufacturers to add features like push-to-start buttons and GPS screens, what do you think will happen to car prices by the time your children try to buy a car?

Lady on the news recently had a run away car and couldn't shut the engine off because of a push button.

I vote NO

This sounds like a challenge for a new thread. Make a list of every thing you would take out of the car. I better start it before Renegade does.

Seen plenty of threads asking for all the gadgets and creature comforts to be optional...don't think you'll ever see it happen...more people know how to use dash-gadgets than know how to check the oil these days...lol...

Buttons and switches are the new "performance"....

Doubt any of us can compete with Renegade's catalogue of existing and future threads...lol

I like my key. I am really no fan of push button starting. I have a push start on my Infiniti, and it's fine, but I find that I have to remember to take my key with me when I get out of the car so that I can lock it (sometimes I leave my purse in the trunk and have to dig my key out anyway). Plus if only one of us has the key, and we go to a store or restaurant, and I get out the car and my husband goes to park it...he is without a key, and has to lock it manually. Or if I have the key, and he forgets to get it from me when going to get the car...he has to come back. It's nice if you're the only one who EVER uses the car, but can be aggravating sometimes.

Push start is great, but they do have a drawback. My wife has a 2012 Beetle, it has the push start. The first time she drove it at night, she shut the car off without it being in park, which you can't do with a key. Luckily it was in the garage and the shut garage door caught it before it rolled out into the street. They should have a system that it needs to be in park when first shut off.

Definately key start. And no passive entry locks. Give me a push button, non passive fob, and key start.

Push buttons and passive locking adds too many complications, chances for driver errors. I had a Vette with both... numerous problems throughout owning it from dead batteries, what was that horn honk, driving off with it running but no keys in the car...

I work with a guy that has a push button start Caddy SRX. I went out at lunch to our parking garage, and noticed his car running with a huge puddle from the the A/C. Obviously it had been running for a long time. I called him to ask if he knew his car was running. He had no idea, came in 6 hrs ago and apparently just walked away without pushing the off button. Probably some noise in the garage and he didn't even realize the Caddy was still running. Imagine doing that in your garage at home?

Keep it simple, key start. If it goes to push button, get ready for all the threads about the bizzare problems that it causes.

most have some sort of warning chime if you turn it off without putting it in park.
