I don't think very many cars will be future collectibles, car collecting is more of a nostalgia thing people who were to young to buy 60's muscle cars and made enough money to persue them have been that markets customer, and then the high end exotic cars for millonaires only, the new generation has no real interest in cars for the most part, took my kids to a muscle car show not even interested in the cars. And look at what is being sold today mostly import and domestic econoboxes,I would say that collector cars will be a thing of the past in the future.

But 45th coupes was 4871 (all coupes) and the TOTAL 45ths was 6841. That's a lot considering collectibility factors. Not in the big scheme of things, but that's still plenty.

If you look at 35th LE annys, they get a few bucks more than regulars, but they were also all SS SLP cars too. The 45ths aren't. And the 25ths? They don't get any love. Had they never made another Camaro after 2002, the 35th LE's would probably be 50% more in price to nab one. Who knows?

I think Special Edition packagess will fall just under the COPOS/1LE/ZL1/Z28(hopeful) and any other actual performance edition cars as far as collectibility. The 45th option might net you a couple bucks more, but not in our lifetimes. But market forces dictate.

And to speak to Tonyko1's analysis, you would be DEAD wrong to think the value of the cars would necessarily go up via inflation. He used the Grand National example. Guess what? In today's dollars, a new Grand National would cost about as much as a 1SS. Prices on GN's have dropped, but they are likely to go up again. Factory HP of today that bests the GN's helps put a damper on prices so only true GN lovers will pay the price. Right now, you can pick up ultra low mileage examples for around 20-25K and in some cases, 15-20K will get you a very nice example with around 20K miles or so. So in effect, you are actually BELOW original pricing for a Grand National. Don't mistake the dollar amount vs. the value amount when talking about future VALUE of a car.

It would be nice if it was going to be valuable, but I didn't get mine because of that.
I LOVE the CFM paint color and the stripes, the Embroidered 45th on the seats etc. are little bonuses.
My Grandson was born this year, so this car will go to him regardless...
But the 50th, if it looks as good, well that one will be mine.
Hopefully it will have the LSA in it.

If you wanted a 2LT v6 it was a better deal to get the 45th over a regular RS 2LT. I think when I worked it out it was something like you got the stripes and all the unique emblems for free.

In this day of age these cars are all over produced. In 2010 and 2011 I seen a rare few on the street. Now late 2012 I can turn every corner and see one. I used to be the only person in the neighborhood with one. Now 3 others on my block have them and more have popped up on my sons walk to school. Plus I see more used ones on dealers lots than new ones. The corner dealer has 9 used camaros and only 7 new ones. Thats including a ZL1 and the pink and white cancer awareness one.

30,40,50 years from now I dont see these reaching the price mark of the $100K copo camaros or the GTO's going for $1Mil.

There is no way to predict what will be collectible in the future.

Plus being rare does not necessarily make a car valuable. Imperial convertibles had less than 500 built each year from 1960-67 and cost 3 times the price of a same year Chevy, had bigger engines with more horsepower, and more accessories. Total production for all Imperial convertibles during all of the 1960's was less than the number of Chevy convertibles built in model year 1957 alone. Yet '57 Chevy converts sell for 3 times the price of any Imperial convertible today.

Plenty of very low production cars have been built. That only means not many wanted them when new. It doesn't mean everybody wants them now.

If that cancer awareness one was a M6 SS I know a woman that would be very interested in it.

Yeah, unless something is extremly rare I just don't see prices taking off. Fact is people saw what happened in the past and these days more and more people are keeping documentation and clean cars hoping it'll be a collectable. Means there will be plenty available and supply and demand will keep prices low since I just don't see these cars being scarce or hard to find even in 30 years.

Speaking of what people will want in 30-40 yrs, think anyone will remember what the heck a "Transformers" car is all about? These cars aint Dorothy's ruby slippers, of which there were only two. And here is a trivia fact: they were going to be silver slippers but with new "Technicolor" of 1939, ruby looked so much better on film.

Bullitt Mustang.
Smoky and the Bandit Trans Am
KITT

Yea, I'm pretty sure the generations that grew up watching the movies and playing with the toys and video games will have many fond memories of Bumblebee as they grow up and begin to earn more money to spend on frivolous toys.
