The LSA runs and feels just a old time big block rat motor. The LS7, if you have ever been around one that is tweeked a bit, has a devilsh high whinning, screaming, devilish noise to it. It's a screamin demon small block for sure. We want NA in a Z28, not SC. Do not confuse CID #'s with motor configuration, a LS7 is a small block of the latest technology as there ever was one. Yes, weight's an issue, and a dead horse of topical discussion. Add on's with the ZL1, well thought out and planned within a pound conscious development program to bring the best beef to the table in it's leanest form, brings the ZL1 into a 1970 Chevelle LS6 range with an automatic. Not acceptable for a Z28. I know thats clear to all of us and it's no new news. We have discussed this time and over again. The car has been built here several times over...and is ready for delivery, GM just needs to give the green light. This topic is like Groundhog day....part 2, and 3, and 4...and.....

I don't necessarily disagree with anything except the weight. Where is the unbreakable law that these cars must weight 3900 pounds? Just becasue GM builds it that way? Even a couple hundred would produce results

As far as CID vs motor config...I'm very old school muscle. I know what a big block is...and isn't

Z28 = Nostalgia

Sure the SS is an upgrade, but my cheap Z/28 I had is where all the "magic" happened lol. If there was a 2013 Z/28 I would totally "make it" in that car just to be like I was back in the day hahahaha.

The 5Gen Camaro was probably never supposed to happen until the Mustang once again became so popular. Chevy had to make one quick to get back in the game. Therefore they used what was available and it happened to be a larger sedan based platform. Now add all the convenience and safety items required and wala you have a bigger and heavier car. I'm glad they brought it back and how quickly they did it. Also can you argue with success? And as I'm sure you know the 6Gen ground up design will be lighter.

Z28 was the factory entry model for Trans AM; a road course car for the street. The SS, was a more frills camaro for the masses.

GM seems to mess around with the model naming every generation. For the forth Gen, the SS ended up being a level up on the Z28, because in the beginning GM didn't build the SS's. The company, SLP, took factory Z/28s and modified them, then resold them through Dealers. That's how the 4th gen SS started out. in the 3rd gen there was no SS. The Z/28 was the top level V8 with 305 or 350ci. The RS Camaro was were you went for the cheaper V8. It came with the choise of either a V6 or the 305 V8. 1st and second gen you had choises of base model, Z28, or z28 with a slew of engines from V6's to both big and small block V8's.

Z/28 was always an SBC-powered Camaro. '67 through '74. '77 through '02.

The last Big Blocks (402s, actually), Gen-2 MY '70-'72, were only offered as upgrades to the SS Package. '67 through '69.5 Big Blocks were available generally only as SS-Packaged offerings. The exceptions, of course, are the infamous COPOs...

....and, 1970 through 1974 SHP SBC's used in Z-28's were the identical SHP SBC 350 CID's used in Corvette's. So, there is a precident set in sharing motors between the two. Let's share the LS7 with a new '14 Z-28, shall we....?
