Is it common procedure?

They might have an integrated database so it could be normal processing. But just call and ask. If uncomfortable tell them to yank the ad. Otherwise it could be promotional.

They can use Camaro's as leaders to other cars. It generates foot traffic.

Then why list his specific VIN #? I'd call the dealership!

Your darn right it builds traffic. Last night when I saw that red 2LT i was there for two minutes and three cars pulled in to look at the camaro.

Holy crap!!! Just went to my dealer's web site and my Camaro showed up there. I was on the web site yesterday and it wasn't listed, so I think that there is some sort of automation, cross database that does it.

Yes it is. And also cars will stay up there for weeks after sold as well.

But I don't like it, because it gives other people a chance to "bid" on your car, and if you have a shady dealer well you know what will happen.

Since there aren't any pictures of your car or anything I would think you're ok and its just like advertising and trying to get people to come in to the dealer and place an order for one or something. Still doesn't seem quite right though.

Been a lurker but you sound like me...I ordered a VW GTI..left deposit, approved for financing, got insurance for car/have VIN #.

Dealer said my car should be in within a week, yesterday messing around, went to dealer website, did search for 'new" inventory, saw VIN that is on my insurance/my car is there??

Freaked....dealer gave me cell number after deal..probably didn't know what he was in for...call him..he says when the car has been purchased by the dealer, the database automatically adds that vehicle to the dealer's inventory.

My car is not here yet...but enroute..hopefully by Monday/Tuesday..

Which is good news for you because that means your car should be there, within a couple of days....it's all good....

P.S,
I was looking at getting a Camaro first before the GTI but it's been crazy
around here, trying to get one.I'll probably get one down the line.
