There may be some that do, but Top Gear not too long ago proved that the Dodge Challenger SRT-8 could be entered, started, and driven away from a diner even if the person with the key fob in their pocket was inside eating.

So, for me, I'll take the key.

Hopefully not a sign of things to come, but the ATS has push button start and push button e-brake. Hate both those features.

The car was parked next to the wall where they were siting, and they only moved the car 30-40 feet away. That hole bit could be done while staying in range of the fob.

I'm also willing to bet that almost all of us have lost our keys regardless of it being a push button start or not...
In my defense, I didn't have front pockets, only back ones with my ID and credit card. Purse was intentionally left behind one day. Gave the fob to hubby to hold so it didn't get left in the car by mistake. Last thing I wanted was a rental to go missing because I basically left the keys in it.

My problem with push button is not the "losing" the keys, but having them not handy. For those of you who are the only one that drives the vehicle probably not as big a deal as those of us who share the driving on road trips.

When on vacation, I would drive, fob in coat pocket, then take off coat and toss in back, then a bit later we'd switch drivers. Then make a gas stop and have to dig out the fob before we could leave the vehicle, now hubby has fob, but I'll eventually be driving again. Now he had to make a pit stop, but still had the fob and walked away from the running car that shut down when he left.

I'm sure we could program things to work better, and if they were my real keys, I would adjust. But I was just so annoyed by the whole experience, it soured me on the push button concept, unless there was a hook on the dash, where the fob could be hung so whomever was driving could just grab it when they left.

And for the record I never lose my real keys, they have a place and they are always in their proper place.

Either one is fine with me. I wonder if age is playing a part in this.
Example
Older people preffer key.
Younger no key.
The younger generations are far more tech savy than the older generations.
Same can be said for the different generations of cars.
Remember not all cars came standard with a.c. or even radios.
Most if not all were manual transmissions.
I guess I am just thinking out loud, well typing out loud. LOL!

So with that being said I am 37 years old and would preffer NO KEY.
My wife and daughter both have cars with push button start.
I love it.

Pretty much agree with all that...(old-guy here)...No doubt it's a big reason why the "key" is even still available at all....

The TV show is entertainment as much as it is informative. Could it be possible they left another fob in the glove box prior to taping the entire skit?

Sure its possible. But I've also seen it done in person. So, yeah, the show is for entertainment and information. Didn't know everyone was so uptight about that part of it. But like I said, I've seen it done and actually done it myself so I would suggest giving it a try before you say something can't be done.

If you had been the owner of the car you would of had two fobs not one. Rental company's rarley give you both keys.

Someone at work had their wife drive off without the fob and the car shut down in an intersection and she got hit by another car while he watched. Great feature. I do agree that age has something to do with it, someone who has been around and seen some of these things come and go sees the pitfalls of some technology. How many younger people panic because they can't get cellular reception or a text?
