Small backfires
I drive a 2010 2LT RS manual with about 20k miles on it. I have noticed that she "pops" through the exhaust almost like a small backfire. This seems to happen when the car is warm rather than cold, strangely enough. Were this a carburated car, I would assume a too-rich mixture. I can't imagine my milage is the better for this issue!
Has anyone had anything like this? |

Do you mean a deceleration popping, like you hear popping sounds from the exhaust during deceleration. If so then this is normal and like music to my ears

yeah decel popping is normal, I love the sound on my motorcycle, can't hear it with stock exhaust, I need to fix that problem..
it's the sound that lets people know there is a bad ass V8 in there. |

To most people this is called "decel pop". Unless your misfiring like a bastard but I really doubt this is the case, this probably happens on deceleration and warm start ups. To keep things simple this "pop" happens when your car creates vacuum, vacuum is created from the moment you start your car until you shut it off, and even then vacuum will still be present inside the engine, booster etc... vacuum decreases as you open your throttle from closed to wide open, the most vacuum present inside your engine is when you make a huge first gear pull to 5-6000RPM and you let off the gas. I can get wayyy more technical on vacuum but this is all you need to know. If you try a huge first gear pull, listen to the exhaust decel pop, its not as prominent with a factory exhaust but its still there and let us know if its the same noise.

Do a muffler delete and you will hear it more often. I love it.
