Well... I'm a single Marine... Live in the barracks, get language bonus, and don't have a chow hall card...
I make about 2200 a month. Don't have any bills besides cellphone, internet, food and car cost.
Car is 500 a month, plus the left over of my paycheck when I receive my next paycheck, so I can pay it off earlier with less interest.
So off my net paycheck with suppose to be payment is 22% but I end up paying about 25 to 30% of my pay to the car payment so I can have it paid off faster.
Obviously I don't have a mortgage on a house.
I'm not big in savings... I hate myself for that reason... But anyways, being in the military there is not much to say about savings, you don't make enough to do that anyways...

All that aside, I'm sure there would be those that state that due to your service to the defense of this country, that allows us to all get on this site and have such lovely threads and debates, that you're allowed the ability to spend a little bit more on a source of entertainment. Your monetary compensation may not be as high as someone non-military, but what you do for a living would make up for that.

Ive always paid cash for my cars. I dont like the idea of having too many payments hanging over my head.

I really wanted a BMW M3 but I didnt have 60k lying around so I didnt buy it. I suppose I could have financed it, but it felt irresponsible so I couldnt bring myself to do it.

Im happy with the SS I decided on.

Military pay is pretty "shitty" but it's enough to live on... I'm not going to explain it all, but I get my basic pay that is like nothing, now that I don't eat at the chow hall I get 300 for buying my own food, and if I get married or have to live off barracks, I'll get almost 1000 for housing... Military makes you live just comfortably, not having much to do, but in comparison, for 4 or 5 years, it's a great career starter, as it requires no experience, only dedication, and when your contract is up, I have higher chances of getting a job than a college grad. And I can get college for free.

I can't say I do much, I'm not the guy that is in the front line, I'm just a "Marine sitting in his room playing xbox." My job is a electronic counterintelligence, I fix electronics on harriers, but for the next year I'm teaching other Marines how to shoot and ensuring they pass their annual requalification, no matter what job I'm doing if I was civilian I would be getting paid 100k year, or more, as I seen people getting out for this salary... But there is no way that I'm getting hired without the experience I'm getting now...

Good Lord, is everyone either a doctor or a lawyer? I know I'm getting paid a low income with living in a town of only 2,000 people, but man!

My car payment alone, comes out to about 25% of what I make a month. so 1/4 of my paycheck goes towards my car. Granted, it's my biggest bill each month, but still. Rent is about $320 a month, includes everything.

No wonder a lot of you guys have money to mod.

I'm a computer technician and take home less than $30,000 a year.

"I can't say I do much" -- You may not physically do much compared to others, but, from what I'm reading, the value of what you provide goes a long way in other situations that can save lives and/or reduce dangers and threats.

I'm at just under 13% of net on my payment. I'm comfortable with that, and usually pay a bit more than required on my payments. My big bills are my mortgage and my car payment (both under 3% interest ) - other than those, I have very little debt - no credit card bills, no medical stuff, etc... Of course, I wish that my salary were higher or my expenses were lower, but I am pretty comfortable with where things are.

I think it depends on your unique situation...

I am not married, make DECENT, and my car income along with my rent/utilities does take up a good bit of my monthly income... but i'm not grinding my teeth to get by either... I mean I still even have spare money to mod pretty regularly, lol

if I was married and had kids, with my income I wouldn't be driving this nice of a car and living in an apartment... but in my mid-20s and not married? why not?

i guess it depends where you live. in san francisco, you'll have a tough time finding a 1 bedroom studio apartment for less than $1,200 a month.

i have several friends who work as network admins/data center techs and the base rate is easily 60-75k a year.

When I lived in SETex, I made roughly 30K. Got moved up to Chicago one year and was given 2x that just in the move.

Also, the rent at my 2BR/2BA apt is 1,947/mo.. That's from the 495/mo in SETex for my 1BR/1BA..

Different areas just have different economics. Since mods and car prices aren't adjusted in the same way, some of us in some locations have more overall $$ due to income differences. If I was still back in Tex.. I wouldn't have anything on this car.

I'm a computer technician and take home less than $30,000 a year.

I'm a CIO, started as a computer tech many moons ago, decided to become an ASE Electronics Tech, but then moved back into Networks, worked as tech support, assistant network admin, network admin, DBA, and over time have moved into my current position.

But I've been doing this 25+ years, I am by no means a youngster like you.. Add to that if I had this position where you live I would make 40% less as the cost of living is much less, but if I had this position in NYC I would be makeing 40% more..

Your probably doing pretty good for where you live and what you do, entry level (computer techs here make about $15/hr which is about $32K a year..
