It appears to be a common problem, so let's see how Chevrolet responds. |

I'd imagine that's from a tool and a lack of care when bolting the rims on and off. dont the rims need to be taken off by the dealer to remove those spacers or whatever prior to delivery?

The wheels look like that as a result of a poor paint process. I have the bright forged wheels on my 2013 also and they look good in the wheel lug recesses. Not as shiny as the outside, but they look okay.

To me it just looks like typical brake dust accumulation or it's become imbedded in the paint.
That area around teh lug nut is difficult to get in and scrub. At least for me. |

I believe it's from water settling in the lug nut area a combination of left over brake dust coming off the lugs settling with the water plus thin paint on the wheels causing the eating away of the paint.
The only 2 ways to prevent this is use compressed air each time the wheel is wet or get some of the 3M material they use for the clear bra and custom cut it for the lug areas.

Mine is definitely a paint issue. Bare metal showing with a little overspray. There's no denying it. I didn't make a big deal because eventually going aftermarket and using these for some slicks!

I have the same wheels (20" 5 spoke bright alum.) on my 2013 ZL1 Convt. Although I do not have this problem it can be caused by several things I have encountered before. Factory defect by improper coating protection. I have also seen brand new alum. wheels permanently damaged during dealer delivery prep. by utilization of improper low ph acidic chrome cleaner being used to clean the aluminum clear-coated surface. This damage is covered by the 36/36 bumper to bumper warranty for external corrosion on outer surfaces of vehicle. Do not let anyone jerk you around. Threaten them w/ arbitration if you are not given new wheels. You paid mucho bucks for new, undamaged, not repaired by refinishing by an outside source. Such a repair is only covered for 90 days. Insist on NEW wheels. I am on my third set of chrome wheels on my 2009 Avalanche LTZ that corroded and the new replacements were already pitted when they put them on. That is how I became so familiar with dealing with the dealers and Chevrolet. If they give you new wheels, do not clean w/ household cleaners, scour pads or any commercial wheel cleaner (especially those designed to dissolve brake pad dust) that is labeled for use on anything other than coated aluminum wheels. Good luck!

looks like damage from agressive wheel cleaner not rinsed off properly.
My wheels are the bright wheels, and other than brake dust between washings, they look great. |

Its a paint issue! There are several sets of wheels both aluminum and black that have the exact same powder coating issue
