NOT EXACTLY

You give rental agencies too much credit for caring about their cars

Yes, it's very easy for the enthusiast to be able to tell the difference. But ask a non-enthusiast and they wouldn't know the difference from the outside unless someone like one of us had already pointed it out to them.

You're making a lot of assumptions that the agency knew exactly what they had (or didn't have) and were intentionally trying to deceive all of their customers.

That's a pretty negative way to go through life, if you ask me.

Hoods are all the same except for ZL1's.

I think he was referring to the mail slots on the SS.

I wouldn't sue, I would just want them to make anyone else who rented the car ends up getting a refund. As I said I was happy enough since they are only charging me the full size rental rate I had reserved for. Im trying to upload a video, need to find a wifi connection.

Sometimes rentals cars became "parts bins" for other cars.
Maybe a SS owner wanted a RS badge and switched it.
I assume some racers rent a SS and park it in the pits in case a spare is needed.

This happens more than we know. I rented a 2012 Mustang, was supposed to be a convertible V8, from Hertz, go figure. Get to Columbus, OH airport, Mustang is there, not a convertible. But they are stating it is a V8. So my friend and I go look, nope, V6. We go back inside and the guy is all of a sudden a foreign mute, can barely speak English, where before he spoke English like a time-share salesman in Cancun. So his boss comes around and offers me a Dodge Challenger for the same price. We go out there, again, 6cylinder. So I opted for the Mustang but told them I want Sirius radio for free (remember when it used to be). So the guy busts out a remote Sirius radio in a bag, swear to God. I had to plug it into the lighter or whatever they are called now. Then I realize it doesn't have Stern on it and Sirius wants $4.95 to activate it. I didn't do it and called back there and told them to cancel the radio. I did find out that you can do half decent burnouts with a V6 Mustang, must have tried 100x, bastards.

The best thing you can do is just bring it to the attention of Hertz. If need be, open the hood and educate them.

Or, you could always rectify the situation by purchasing some fishing line at a local store and removing the SS logo yourself
It is THEFT by deception on Hertz's part.

Could it be that the trunk got damaged and the body shop found a trunk lid from an SS and put it on there. I mean most clerks at those rental places know one thing - how much fuel and is it clean.

Why would Hertz put in a strut tower brace??? Maybe someone rented an SS and rebadged a 2LT and turned it back in.

Win!
Or someone swapped out their V6 for the Hertz L99.
Let's not be too hard on Hertz, I watched this commercial back in '63.
