Does the car also have the grill SS emblem? Is it a true RS? Does it have halos? I am just wondering if it was supposed to have RS emblems but either the factory installed a incorrect emblem or maybe it was damaged in transit and the wrong emblem was ordered and put on the car. Either that or some unscrupulos dealer sold it to Hertz as an SS and they never figured it out.

It had crossed my mind but the VIN on the registration matches the VIN on the car and the car is registered to Hertz on the paper. I went in to talk to the Hertz rental manager at HNL today and they basically have no idea what cars they rent. Also, I was told they are "not allowed to own V8 cars" and I mentioned that their websites say they have V8s and the add right behind their desk says their SS is a V8......that incident puts me a bit over the top. Im uploading my video now on the car itself, I have a wifi signal where I am at now.

Just more thoughts on when I brought the car and and spoke with the manager they were basically playing the line that we just rent what we are told they are. Well, either the dealer screwed you really hard on selling you a V6 or you've been rebadging some of your LT cars as SS cars.

Ill post when the video has completed being uploaded and you guys can take a look. I thought going to talk to the manger face to face I would be able to make some sense on this but it honestly made me even more frustrated.

No front SS badge, I noticed that while making the video I'm uploading.

It is my bad when I saw the front was missing the mail slot (cute name) and didnt just go into the office then. I had just figured maybe it was a rental fleet thing so the nose area had commonality for repair with the V6 fleet.

Interested in seeing where this goes... They only advertise V8's on their site.

There is an urban legend about people stealing the engines out of the Hertz Mustangs in the 60s. Maybe the same thieves are stealing SS engines and bumper covers. :-)

Suing is a bit much if you ask me. A simple refund is what is needed which I'm sure they'd be willing to do. But they won't be willing to help if you march in the office screaming/yelling. That combo never gets people to want to help you. So just approach the situation calm, cool and collected. If the sales associate isn't willing to help, politely ask to speak to the manager and explain the situation.

On another subject we have another 2LT with SS badging, this all sounds too familiar as we have LT/SS with ZL1 badging/parts. Makes you wonder where the rental place learned from though possibly some members on this forum.

So when I get to where we are going I pop the hood and what is there to my surprise...a V6 engine cover, 6 spark plugs, V6 belt routing, and even V6 engine parts sticker on the underside of the hood. The VIN is also that for a V6 car.

So, what is the deal with this "SS". I even searched the VIN and it comes up as a convertible 2LT. How can they rent this as a SS??? Am I missing something here? Im not crazy that is a V6 in there right?

Some pictures below:
Any other exterior pictures? Besides the fake SS badge, surely you would've immediately realized that it was a V6? Unless they did a SS front end conversion, etc.?

That's a bit of a stretch and a slight diss to the forum.

I call BULLSHIT here. I was in Vegas and rented a SS from Hertz. It was a 8cyl. and ran just like my used to. I had no problems. About 6 months ago I was in Orlando Florida and rented a SS from Hertz again and had no problems there either...

Haven't heard that one before but, supposedly when some of the GT350H's were stripped down for restorations the shops could see where roll bars had been welded in and then cut back out.
The urban legend is guys would rent a GT350H for a weekend of racing fun......pick up the car, weld in a roll bar, hit the drag strip or road course, cut the roll bar out, and drop the car off with the rental clerk not knowing what took place.
Those cars must have been beaten on something fierce!

I had a feeling it was a V6 once I was on the highway, I didnt pop the hood till I got in to where we were staying and I called Hertz asap. Not seeing the mail slot and listening to the startup of the engine should have had me turned around and back in the office instead of starting the drive to where we were staying. The badge was the SS on the rear. I guess just having stayed up for 24 hours coming from Fiji would have made me just want to get in and get to sleep at the time

Yes, I agree with that, as I had mentioned I wouldn't sue. I did get the rate knocked back down to what I was going to pay for a full-size so I am happy for myself.

I do want Hertz to tell me how this would happen, and I would also want them to refund anyone else that rented this car and paid the SS rate.

If anyone wants to see my rambling video walk around showing the car the link is below (car walk around starts at 2 minutes): here

If I could drive it across the Pacific and swing by Pittsburgh to prove it I would. I would also pick up a Primanti's on the way back for the long Pacific voyage. It isnt BS, its for real. Dont know how much more I could do to prove it.

As I've said, Im not really looking for anything from Hertz, just want to know how this happened. And that I wasnt crazy that it was actually a V6.
